HK Media Expose Coup Plot of Zhou Yongkang and Bo Xilai
On Jan.12, Chinese media reported that former Politburo
Standing Committee member Zhou Yongkang was facing
a life imprisonment or death sentence.
Following that, the pro-CCP Phoenix Television (ifeng.com)
published an article on Jan.13.
The article revealed details about how Zhou forged
an alliance and plotted the coup with former Chongqing
Party secretary Bo Xilai.
The report quoted the cover story and details of the latest issue
of Phoenix Weekly magazine, exclusively revealing details
of Zhou’s six key crime facts announced by the CCP.
The crimes include “severely violation of party rules",
“leaking state secrets", “directly taking huge bribes",
“trading power for money and sex" and others.
In particular, it was mentioned that Zhou and Bo once had
a secret talk about how to utterly destroy Deng Xiaoping’s
economic reform route.
They planned to “pursue ambitions" by returning
Mao’s Culture Revolution route, said the report.
This report confirms previous storied uncovered by
foreign media about Zhou and Bo’s coup plot.
Analysts commented that, the source of Phoenix
Television’s story could be the CCP leadership group itself
As boss and relative of Zhou Yongkang, Jiang Zemin
could not be absolved from Zhou and Bo’s coup plot.
The report thus can be read as a signal of Xi’s escalation
in cracking down on Jiang and his cronies.
Alarming – Full Implementation of Online Real-Name Registration System in 2015
The CCP officially announced on Jan.13 that, the Online
Real-Name Registration System will be fully implemented
on weibo, tieba and other social network websites in 2015.
The regime also announced the closure of 5 websites,
some online columns and public WeChat accounts.
The news has quickly drawn media attention, as well as
queries and protest from Chinese netizens.
Internet activist Wu Bin (nickname “Xiucai Jianghu") told
Radio Free Asia that, the true purpose of the Real-Name
Registration System aims at suppressing freedom of online speech,
and silencing people, instead of protecting privacy or
the network environment as claimed.
The move would only lead to more public resentment against
the CCP,
Wu said, in the short term, the strategy could tighten speech
control, but in the long term it would seed up the collapse
of the regime.
Weibo Big-V user and lawyer Yuan Yulai also queried that
the Real-Name Registration System is a control mechanism to
silence dissidents on the Internet.
Yuan said in an interview that, the Real-Name Registration
was a violation of many fundamental civil rights in law.
New Mass Demonstrations Brewing in Hong Knog
On Jan.12, Hong Kong’s Civil Human Rights Fronts (CHRF)
announced that they would organize a mass demonstration
scheduled on Feb.1.
CHRF said, the theme of the demonstration would be:
“Deny False Democracy, Seek Real General Election."
CHRF estimated that about 50,000 people would join
the march, starting from Victoria Park to Chater Garden.
CHRF said, the demonstration would end by mid-night
and there was currently no occupation plan.
The demonstration has not been approved by police.
The demonstration can be the first mass protest
in Hong Kong after the police clearance of Occupy Central sites,
and thus has drawn much attention from the public and media.
