CCP Plays “Defending Diaoyu Islands Hurts the Country" Tactic
While anti-Japanese demonstrations storm many cities
in China, the President of the People’s Daily, Japan Edition,
Han Xiaoqing commented,
“Defending Diaoyu Islands (Uotsuri Jima) hurts the country."
This has angered many and she has been denounced
by some as a, “traitor."
Japan Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda wrote to President Hu
Jintao, calling for stable relations between the two countries.
Diaoyudao protesters indicated that to defend Diaoyu Islands
is to defend its sovereignty and uphold international law.
It is also believed Han Xiaoqing’s article was meant
to suppress the wave of Diaoyu Islands protests and to protect the CCP regime from nationalism.
Han Xiaoqing is the president of the CCP central
committee newspaper People’s Daily in Japan.
She does not believe the activity of landing on Diaoyu Islands
by Hong Kong and Taiwan and mainland China is patriotic.
This act “hurts the country," she wrote.
She said that Japan has been one of China’s most
important economic partners in the past 30 years.
A complete fall out with Japan will cause China to lose
the strategic development opportunities.
Tong Zeng, president of the China Federation for Defending
the Diaoyu Islands (CFDD), refutes Han Xiaoqing’s remarks for the fact that Japan claim more than give.
Tong Zeng, president of the CFDD:"Japan has gained
far more than interest-free and low-interest loans.
Japan has a win-win situation.
Japan wins more than China in economy.
Take Shanxi Taiyuan coal resources as an example.
For many years, Japan has had a railway to Chinese ports for access to that coal source."
Tong Zeng indicates that Japan is pressing harder and harder
to control and occupy Diaoyu Islands with tactics.
Chinese landing on Diaoyu Islands is to defend
its sovereignty and is beyond reproach.
Tong Zeng: “In fact, any country, state in the world would
have done the same as those people from China,
Hong Kong and Taiwan who landed on Diaoyu Islands.
Their purpose is to defend international law.
Under international law, the Diaoyu Islands is the
sacrosanct territory of China."
Beijing independent filmmaker Zhu Rikun believes that
the purpose of the Han Xiaoqing article is to help the CCP regime to relieve tension.
The regime takes advantage of domestic anti-Japan sentiment
on the one hand, and on the other hand,
it worries about losing control of such sentiments,
therefore, it exploits one’s mouth to guide public opinion.
Beijing independent filmmaker Zhu, Kun:
“This is very dangerous.
The CCP takes advantage of this anti-Japan sentiment
to cover up other problems and conflicts on the one hand.
On the other hand, this could expand and
cause a huge impact to the CCP ruling.
The CCP uses contradictory psychology
to deal with this matter."
After Japan arrested the Diaoyu protesters and sent them
back, anti-Japan protests took place in more than a dozen cities in China.
But Zhu Rikun believes the seemly heated Diaoyu Islands
incident is nothing major to the CCP.
In fact, the plight of survival is far more severe
than the Diaoyu Islands incident for most Chinese.
Zhu Rikun: “Everyone is more concerned about his own
life, safety in the country, financial problems, and his personal rights in the country."
Netizens lashed out by criticizing Han Xiaoqing’s article.
Netizen ‘Hangzhou wind’ wrote, “How about
the government release a public statement to claim
it is not the right time to solve the Diaoyu Islands and
ask people not to cause trouble for the government.
It is incompetent overseas,
but good at deceiving domestically!"
Global Times website, Huanqiu.com,
previously published Han Xiaoqing’s article and
stated she is the president of People’s Daily in Japan,
and later corrected itself by saying Han is “the president of Info China,
the overseas Chinese edition of People’s Daily in Japan."
At present, this article has been removed from
the Huanqiu.com web site.
Taiwan’s China Times reported that the car of Japanese
Ambassador to China was attacked and the relations between Japan and China have deteriorated.
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda wrote a letter
to mainland China President Hu Jintao on the 28th.
He called on the two sides to calmly face the
opposition triggered by the Diaoyu Islands incident.
Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi,
brought Noda’s letter to China and personally
handed to the Chinese government official.
