Party Media Advocating Reform, What’s the Purpose?
The Chongqing Wang Li Jun incident has led to a
political crisis for the Chinese regime.
Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s media The People’s
Daily recently wrote an article titled,
“Reform might be dangerous.but the party will be
in danger without reform.”
Experts have pointed out that, the CCP is in a dilemma,
CCP leaders have realized that they will die an ugly death without reform.
However, this reform that the CCP advocates is not a real
political reform.
So people should let go of their faith in the CCP.
The People’s Daily published an article on Feb 23, claiming
that reform is “inevitable.”
History Professor at Renmin University Zhang Ming told
Hong Kong’s Ming Po, the CCP has said in the past
that, “reform is suicide, but not to reform is to be
waiting to die.”
but after the Wang Lijun incident, the CCP has realized
that waiting to die might lead to an even more painful death.
Freelance writer Liao Cheng has pointed out that,
the CCP is now surrounded by crises on all sides.
Liao Cheng, “The problem in China is increasingly more
serious, paper can not hold fire.
without reform, (the CCP) is worried that if the public will
starts to boil, a little spark will trigger a full scale rebellion.
With a reform, it’s still hard to avoid shaking the interests of
CCP central leaders, so reform or not it is all controlled by the highest level of the CCP.”
U.S Seton Hall University retired professor Yang Liyu
has pointed out that, the CCP media’s advocating reform is
related to the major failure of Bo Xilai’s “Sing Red, Fight Black”
campaign in Chongqing.
The reform that Deng Xiaoping stressed was only economic
revolution, not political revolution.
Yang Liyu, “Openly calling for press freedom, and
political freedom.
This is true political reform, but this is definitely not possible,
as with freedom of the press, the criticism of the CCP and
the CCP’s suppression of human rights is endless.”
At the same time, the mainland Internet recently allowed
searches of sensitive words like ‘Zhao Ziyang’, and ‘June 4th incident’
However, two days later, on Feb 23, those words were
censored again.
Words like ‘Wang Lijun’ and ‘Jiang Weiping’ also gets
censored periodically.
Some commentators believe that the CCP is trying to create
a relaxed atmosphere before the 18th Party Congress.
Others believe the various factions within the CCP are
using the Internet to fight each other.
Liao Cheng said, during the past 20 years CCP rule of
Jiang Zemin to Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao,
the development path of the CCP is “anti-reform,” because
in today’s China, there is no room for freedom of speech.
Liao Cheng, “Everything was in the personal interests of
officials.
Re-advocating the reform thinking of Zhao Ziyang, and
Centering people’s attention on reform and opening up.”
Former June 4th student movement leader Liu Gang
Believes that, this is just another method that is used by the CCP during
a crisis.
Liu Gang, “Trying to purposefully leak, trying to intentionally
lead the people astray.
When CCP feels that something is really hard to control,
like the Wang Lijun incident, it will intentionally leak out some information.”
Liu Gang said, everyone who seeks human rights and
democracy should give up all hope in the CCP.
Liu Gang, “The CCP’s so called reform, frequently
mentioning that it will readdress the issue of June 4th and Falun Gong.
All of this is a lie. When it feels threatened, or that its rule is
crumbling, it will shout out some things.
The largest reform of the CCP is to reform itself, but
the CCP will never agree to that.”
This year is the 20th anniversary of the former CCP leader
Deng Xiaoping’s so-called “Southern Talk".
The People’s Daily has launched a series of articles
advocating reform.
However, when the Chinese premier Wen Jiabao mentioned
political reform, no one in the CCP openly responded.
