Floodwaters continue to sweep into western and northern Bangkok forcing people to flee their homes.

Thailand announced a five day holiday on Tuesday to give people a chance to escape the floods.

The rising waters also threatened to close down trains traveling to the south.

One railway officer said the situation was being monitored.

[Jaran Seranon, Railway Officer]:
“I’m worried because if floodwaters reach a level as high as 15 centimeters (5.9 inches), it would be bad. We have to monitor day by day."

Some residents worried their business would suffer.

[Hansa Artnoi, Bangkok Resident]:
“If there is more floodwater, then trains won’t operate, passengers can’t use the train, I cannot make a living."
曼谷居民汉莎说:“如果洪水再不消退,火车就不会运作,乘客也无法搭火车,我会很难生活下去。”
The flooding, the worst the country has seen in five decades, has killed 366 people and disrupted the lives of nearly 2.5 million.
这场泰国50年来最大的洪水至今已让366人死亡,并破坏了近250万人的生活。
