CCP Embarrassed by Libya’s Change
The change of Libya’s government has been a media focus
in China in the past several days.
The Chinese people congratulated
the Libyan people on their victory.
Although the Chinese media have published
a large amount of reports on this event.
However, the mouthpiece media of the Chinese Communist
Party (CCP) still cautiously defended the Libran dictator.
Analysts point out that what happens to Libyan despot Gaddafi
will happen to the CCP.
The CCP is extremely fearful, hostile, awkward and
helpless about the governmental change in Libya.
The downfall of Gaddafi’s despotic regime has inspired many
Chinese people, who congratulated Libyan people
on their victory on micro-blogs and forums.
A report titled “Arrest Gaddafi" on Netease in China attracted
over 40,000 netizens in just one day.
The top-ranking reply thread “Hang the Dictator"
gained nearly 5,000 people’s support.
Radio France Internationale reported on August 24 that
nearly all commercial media reported in headline news
the Libyan opposition celebrating their victory.
Beijing News, Oriental Morning Post, Jinan Daily,
Daily Commercial News and Shanxi Evening News
directly placed the Manifesto of terminating Gaddafi Era
in their headlines.
On Aug. 25, Henan Business Daily used an illustration titled
“Gaddafi in Cage”, declaring “the end of the strong man.”
Three days before the Libyan opposition troops entered
the capital, the CCTV program “Global Watch" predicted that
the oppositions were “incapable of besieging the capital,"
stating “oppositions’ victory would be the worst consequences."
As for the tone change of the CCP’s mouthpieces in covering
events in Libya, Huang Liangtian, former editor-in-chief
of the Baixin magazine said that media in China are
subordinate to the CCP without an independent voice.
So the media are reporting as per the CCP’s requirements.
Huang Liangtian: “The scenes and remarks on TV (to defend
Gaddafi) in that period of time should be their true thoughts.
But now in front of the reality, they have no choice but to tell
the truth unwillingly, to not go openly against the era’s trend."
One netizen “FYKane" questioned the CCTV on micro-blog,
“We once mocked NATO that it would sink deeply
in the mud because of the Libyan issue.
We once reported how supportive the Libyan people were
for their leader.
We once predicted that the Libyan opposition was composed
of insignificant and unpromising mobs.
We once believed that Libya would be dragged into a long
civil war and its people would plunge into an abyss of misery.
Today, in the face of liberated Libyans, who are celebrating
their victory, should we be silent or blessing them?
Are we going to continue with the rumors or to have
a deep introspection? CCTV, please answer!"
It is a pity that the CCTV and other CCP’s media
are making propaganda that
“major Western countries manipulated the situation in Libya."
They also denied the fact that
“Libyan oppositions have entered the capital
and began to exercise power."
An article titled “West Asia and North Africa are
Facing Tough Transition" was published on the People’s Daily.
It state that “many deeper-level problems involved in the
transition cannot be solved merely by toppling the government."
It seems to suggest to the folks that
“stability of a government is of supreme importance."
Former reporter of Shanxi TV Station, Ma Xiaoming said,
“Although the CCP does not want to see the (real) situation,
this is out of CCP’s control.
The CCP is unable to change the situation of dictators’
downfalls one after another.
So, the CCP is very awkward and helpless."
BBC Chinese reported that Chair of Libya National Transition
Committee Mustafa Muhammad Abdul Jalil announced
a US$1.7 million award for apprehending Gaddafi.
The Gaddafi Era has already ended.
Ma Xiaoming: “What is a dictatorship?
It is nothing but the plundering of and slavery over the people!
I hope the next targets of the people in the world
are Damascus (Syrian), Sana’a (Yemen) and Chinese tyrants!"
