News Corp Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch used advertisements in national newspapers on Saturday to apologise for the ‘News of the World’s “serious wrongdoing."
新闻集团首席执行长鲁伯特梅铎,周六在全国性报纸上刊登广告,为世界新闻报的“严重罪行”道歉。
The media tycoon said he was “deeply sorry" for the suffering caused to victims of the news hacking scandal.
传媒大亨说,对遭受窃听消息丑闻之苦的受害者,我“深感歉意”。
The advert was running in Saturday’s Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, Financial Times, Guardian, Independent, Sun and Times, News International said.
新闻国际说,该广告在周六的每日邮报、每日电讯报、金融时报、卫报、独立报,太阳报和泰晤士报上刊出。
“The News of the World was in the business of holding others to account. It failed when it came to itself," Murdoch wrote in the article, which was signed “Sincerely, Rupert Murdoch."
他说:“《世界新闻报》一直以来的工作是要人们为自己的行为负责,自己却没做到。”梅铎在文章中写道,署名“鲁伯特.梅铎敬上”。
“We are sorry for the serious wrongdoing that occurred. We are deeply sorry for the hurt suffered by the individuals affected," he added.
“我们很抱歉发生这种严重错误。对受波及而受伤害的人,我们感到非常难过。”他接着说。
“In the coming days, as we take further concrete steps to resolve these issues and make amends for the damage they have caused, you will hear more from us."
“未来日子,我们会采取具体措施解决这些问题,并对所造成的损害作修正,各位将会听到我们更多的消息。”
On Friday, in an attempt to gain control of a scandal rocking his company and inching its way ever-closer to his son and newspaper empire heir James Murdoch, the media baron apologized in person to victims of criminal phone hacking by one of his tabloids and accepted the resignations of News Corp’s top two newspaper executives, Rebekah Brooks and Les Hinton.
周五,为了将动摇他公司并且一步步影响他儿子的丑闻得到(损害)控制,媒体大亨为了他旗下小报违法窃听电话,亲自向受害者道歉,并接受新闻集团两位高层新闻主管,利百加‧布鲁克斯和莱斯‧韩丁的辞呈。
The crisis has broken the grip that 80 year old Murdoch had over British politics for three decades, as leaders from Margaret Thatcher, through Labour’s Tony Blair to current Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron sought his support.
这场危机使得80的岁梅铎在英国政坛呼风唤雨30年的时代告终,政坛领袖柴契尔夫人,工党布莱尔,到现在的保守党首相大卫‧卡梅伦,都曾寻求他的支持。
