Teenage Sailors Tell Story of Survival in the Pacific Ocean

STORY:
Three teenaged boys who had been lost at sea for 50 days spoke about their ordeal for the first time Wednesday.
三名在海上失踪五十天的青少年男孩，周三时首次谈论他们的苦难经历。
The boys went missing on October 6th from the small island of Tokelau, a territory of New Zealand.
这群男孩在10月6日时，在隶属于纽西兰的拖克劳群岛的一个小岛上走失了。
Surviving on rainwater, a coconut and a seagull they caught, the boys said it was their faith in God that kept them alive.

After two weeks of search and rescue efforts, the boys were left for dead. Friends and family even held a memorial service for the cousins, aged 14 and 15.

Last week a New Zealand fishing boat spotted the boys 800 miles from where they started, or nearly 1,300km, in an empty, little traveled section of the Pacific Ocean.

The boys’ uncle and head of Tokelau government said he never gave up hope.

[Kuresa Nasau, Survivor’s Uncle]:
“While I always, from the day one, I had a high expectation for these boys to be found somewhere in the ocean. But when following day I got the news that they were alive – a fishing boat found them, I just cried. Not these are only Tokelauan boys, they are my nephews."

The teens are being treated for malnutrition and dehydration in Fiji until arrangements can be made to bring them home.

The Tokelau Islands consist of three small atolls in the Pacific Ocean, near midway between New Zealand and Hawaii.
