Retired civil servant Sariban patrols the Indonesian city of Bandung as an unpaid, one-man cleaning crew.
退休公务员沙里班以一位“无给职一人清洁小组”,在印尼万隆市区巡逻。
He sweeps streets and gardens, sorts waste, yanks out nails from trees and scrapes posters from walls.
他打扫街道和公园、做垃圾分类、从树干上拔出钉子,并且刮干净墙上的海报。
Sariban hopes the local government will one day follow his lead.
沙里班希望地方政府有一天能起而效尤。
[Sariban, Retired Civil Servant]:
“The government should not just pass regulations. They have to show the people how to do it, practice it. Not just keep quiet when they see people litter."
沙里班,这位退休的公务员说道:“政府不应该只是通过一些规章,他们应该告诉人们怎么做并且付诸实行。当看见人们乱丢时,政府不应只是保持缄默。”
He takes that message to people on the streets, singing songs to promote a cleaner city.
他把这个讯息告诉街上的人,并且边唱着歌边打扫,来让都市的整洁升级。
[Sariban, Retired Civil Servant]:
“I am doing this because I think that if we live in a clean environment, our lives would be healthier."
退休的公务员沙里班说:“我之所以会这么做,是因为我认为如果我们能住在一个干净的环境,那么我们的身体一定会更健康。”
The 67-year-old man tours the city twice each day and other residents welcome his regular patrols.
这位67岁的老先生每天巡视都市两遍,其他的居民也很欢迎他这种规律性的巡逻。

“Not many people would do what he does to the city. He takes care of the city’s waste. I appreciate him for what he does."
马克思,一位万隆市的居民说:“不见得有很多的人愿意像他这样为本市付出,他把都市的垃圾做了处理,我要感谢他所作的一切。”
Sariban’s volunteer work is important for Bandung, which faces floods each year.
沙里班的义工工作,对每年都会面临洪患的万隆市来说,是非常重要的。
More than one thousand people evacuated the city in early March after garbage clogged streams and the river overflowed.
三月初,在垃圾堵塞了溪流,并且造成河川泛滥成灾之后,有1000多人从城市撤离。
