【新唐人北京時間2020年09月11日訊】今年是9.11恐怖襲擊19週年，9月10日晚，位於紐約的美國9.11國家紀念博物館亮燈以示紀念。海外社交媒體推特上有不少網友帖文紀念9.11，有當年恐襲發生時受害者的絕望遺言視頻流出，令人不勝唏噓。

當地時間2001年9月11日早晨，19名基地組織恐怖份子劫持4架民航客機，其中兩架飛機分別撞向紐約世界貿易中心雙塔，造成飛機上的所有人以及世貿中心大樓中許多人死亡，世貿中心大樓在兩小時內倒塌，臨近的其他建築也被摧毀或損壞。
第3架被劫持的飛機撞向位於弗吉尼亞州阿靈頓縣的五角大樓，第4架飛機在賓夕法尼亞州的一個鄉村墜毀。4架被劫持的飛機上均無人生還，這起恐怖襲擊事件造成近3000人死亡或失蹤。
9.11恐怖襲擊事件是和平時期美國本土首次遭受來自空中的襲擊，美國政府事後對實施恐襲的基地組織恐怖份子予以強硬回擊。巴基斯坦當地時間2011年5月2日，美國海豹特種部隊在巴基斯坦境內的一次軍事行動中，成功擊斃了基地組織頭目奧薩馬．本．拉登。
