1989: “Savage” Tiananmen Crackdown Revealed
China’s communist regime is denying having ordered troops
to fire at civilians and students in Tiananmen Square 26 years
ago, but recently declassified Telexes have once again
confirmed the savagery of the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown.
The Daily Telegraph reported the messages obtained from
Canada’s national archives by Tom Korski, a former Beijing
correspondent for the South China Morning Post newspaper.
“The dispatches paint a bleak and bloody picture of events
in Beijing during and after the military offensive against
thousands of protesters who had spent weeks occupying
Tiananmen Square in the Spring of 1989”. said The Telegraph.
A boy was seen trying to escape holding a woman with
a 2-year old child in a stroller, and was run over by a tank;
The tank turned around and mashed them” said the Telexes;
Soldiers fired machine guns until the ammo ran out;
The massive number of bullets fired at Tiananmen “ricocheted
inside nearby houses, killing many residents,” they continued.
The Canadian embassy described the killings as “savage”.
The Telexes recounted an eyewitness account of one survivor
interviewed by diplomats, who described how soldiers fired at
and tanks ran over the elderly, children and women at will.
The Telexes correspond to the papers released last year by the
National Security Archive to George Washington University,
which obtained them under the Freedom of Information Act.
Troops from the 27th Army from the provinces “were laughing
and shooting at random at any assembly of persons
they encountered,” reported an eye-witness.
Wu Renhua, Participant and Eyewitness 1989 Student Protest:
“If the June 4 massacre is recognized, the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP) won’t be able to hold on to its rule.
“People won’t accept what’s publicized about the People’s
Liberation Army (PLA) being the Chinese people’s army,
about the relationship between it and the people being
as close as that of ‘fish to water’.”
The deployment of 200,000 troops, tanks, armored vehicles
and ammunition to murder people is very cruel—it’s rarely
seen even on a battlefield."
The declassified Canadian documents also reveal that
the CCP tried to eliminate the survivors.
On Jun. 7, 1989, diplomats wrote that they were contacted by
Chinese officials demanding to know if any dissidents had
sought refuge in the embassy amid mass arrests of protestors.
Embassy staff estimated that 10,000 people had been arrested
in Beijing alone, including two employees of IBM
who were jailed for sending faxes from the company’s office.
To the victims of the June 4 massacre, although the PLA is
the executioner, the real culprit is felt to be the CCP,
who controls the troops via incitement and deception.
WikiLeaks published U.S. diplomatic cables in September
2011, saying that a soldier attached to the 38th Army revealed
that they were tricked into firing on unarmed demonstrators,
after being told that students had killed 100 of their men.
Some soldiers regretted what they had done,
but were forbidden from talking about the event.
Zhou Fengsuo, Leader of 1989 Students Protest:
“We have learned many facts and encountered many victims;
The CCP won’t be able to cover this up.”
“Wu Renhua has collected, through years of effort, detailed
information, records and hard evidence of the suppression
and the shooting by soldiers, and much more information has
leaked from the regime, such as the memoirs of Li Peng,
Chen Xitong, and Zhao Ziyang. ”
“The country is now being controlled by a group of vicious
elderly generals and the government is run by people
who will blindly follow their orders. The situation looks grim
at best,” the embassy wrote in a June 15 Telex to Ottawa.
Canadian diplomats condemned the CCP in secret cables,
calling them a “gerontocracy” that is “bereft of any credible
claim to legitimacy. ”
Zhou Fengsuo indicates that all the declassified documents
confirm the fact that the CCP can’t hide; The former CCP
leader Deng Xiaoping had initiated the political suppression
and murder of China’s defenseless people.
