Open Dialogue on Friday in Hong Kong
October 7th is the 7th day of the Hong Kong Occupy Central
movement for democratic election.
The tension continues to dissipate with fewer people
sticking to the three positions.
Hong Kong Federation of Students (HKFS) and Hong Kong
government jointly announced the public dialogue.
It will be held on Friday October 10 at 4pm.
Prior to the announcement, the two sides held a preparatory
meeting for the third time.
Deputy Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs
Bureau of the Hong Kong Government Lau Kong-wah
welcomes the media during the process of the open dialogue.
However, the public can’t enter the meeting room.
Lau Kong-wah did not disclose the venue of the dialogue.
HKFS deputy secretary general Cen Aohui said the
government still isn’t facing the current political
problem and the opinion of dissatisfied people who
have remained on the street for a long time;
They just raised two constitutional issues as a conversation
topic.
It makes people and students disappointed and angry because
the government are just playing with them.
Hong Kong Apple Daily reported Cen Ao Hui says Occupy
Central will continue until the concrete results of the dialogue.
If the Hong Kong government plays with the people at the
first round dialogue, HKFS will consider initiating civil action.
Defenders Doubt the Real Process of Dialogue
The defenders of the Occupy Central positions believe the
government and HKFS talks can make substantive progress.
According to the VOA report, the demonstrators at the
Admiralty said they will maintain pressure on the government.
They will keep this up until the real process of the dialogue.
The report quoted a student saying the government doesn’t
want to have a dialogue but to destroy the movement.
The government is very clear about what the protesters want,
so no need for dialogue.
Poll: Hong Kong Media’s Self-censorship
On Oct. 7, Public Opinion Program from the University of
Hong Kong published a poll that the public satisfaction with
press freedom in Hong Kong rebounded sharply, but the news
media credibility rating is the lowest in eight years.
Nearly half of the respondents believe that half of the current
Hong Kong news media have self-censorship.
Between September 23 to 30, Hong Kong University public
Opinion Program conducted 1032 phone interviews.
The survey showed that 55% of respondents are satisfied with
the current press freedom;
47% criticized the self-censorship in the news;
46% believe that the media have scruples
in criticizing Beijing government.
