Zhou Yongkang Finally Indicted – Fourth Plenary Fastracked
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) finally announced the
investigation of Zhou Yongkang, the former secretary of the
Central Political and Legislative Committee,
and a decision was made to move up the Fourth Plenary
to October.
Without giving the details of the allegations, the public named
Zhou Yongkang’s top 10 crimes.
What is the purpose of announcing the investigation prior to
the Fourth Plenary? What would it be like for Zhou Yongkang?
Let’s see the report.
On the 29th, CCTV Evening News reported that CCP leader
Xi Jinping presided over the Politburo meeting that day.
The meeting decided to convene the Fourth Plenary of the 18th
National Congress in October.
The News also announced the Central Commission for Discipline
Inspection is investigating Zhou Yongkang allegedly
“on suspicion of grave violations of discipline.”
However, the announcement did not specify Zhou Yongkang’s
crimes.
Southeast University law professor Zhang Zanning:
“The announcement mentioned violation of discipline, not law.
That means Zhou Yongkang might not be subject to the Justice
Department, but he could also face the most severe trial in the end."
While Zhou Yongkang was said to be investigated as early as
last year, the official confirmation was not ready until now.
Dr. Ke Ye of Public Policy, University of Southern California,
analyzed Xi Jinping is doing it to set up his authority,
and taking time to resolve some social reactions.
Last December when Zhou Yongkang’s was said to be sacked,
his “malicious intents” have been reported by Hong Kong’s media:
such as twice attempted the assassination of Xi Jinping during the
Beidaihe meeting in August 2012,
the mutiny plan with former Chongqing Municipal Secretary
Bo Xilai, the murder of his ex-wife, and his absurd scandals.
Zhou Yongkang was also alleged to have murdered his wife,
attempted the murder of Xi Jinping, arranged widespread
live organ harvesting and other crimes.
Commentator Lin Zixu: “To name Zhou Yongkang’s crimes?
I believe the Central has yet to conclude.
Since he’s already publicly sacked, the punishment is certain,
like the old saying, Not cutting the grass root, is necessarily
a recipe for disaster. “
Zhou Yongkang’s 10 sins have been made popular on the Internet:
subversion, murder, crimes against humanity, genocide,
the crime of kidnapping, trafficking in women for prostitution
crimes, robbery, embezzlement, bribery, abuse of power.
Zhou Yongkang was named “the gang with the heinous act"
by the Chinese people.
Zhang Zanning: “Zhou Yongkang is sinful. It is not just the
discipline problem, but also serious violation of laws,
constitution, human rights, and the genocide.
To hold him in these crimes, including the treason,
Zhou Yongkang may be sentenced to death."
Ke Ye analyzes that the CCP is faced with the crisis of demise
with the conflicts being open to the public.
He believes that the CCP is concerned about losing control of
the domestic situation if Zhou is to be tried directly on the
coup plot.
Ke Ye suggests that the issue of Falun Gong, needs to be
addressed, especially the organ harvesting from living
Falun Gong practitioners.
This, has been a widespread concern in the
international community.
Ke Ye: “Zhou Yongkang’s biggest crime is the persecution
of Falun Gong and the live organ harvesting.
The persecution has ruined many hundreds of thousands of
Falun Gong practitioners and their families,
and the entire system of maintenance of stability, including
the entire public security authorities, are participants of
the persecution.
The deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners
are their bloody debts."
Zhang Zanning indicates that Zhou Yongkang’s crime
of genocide will challenge the legitimacy of the Communist
authority.
Therefore, the CCP might not even put a figure
on his crime of treason.
Ke Ye: “The CCP is hitting a dead end, a deadlock.
It is like what the old saying about the retribution.
What goes around comes around.
Zhou Yongkang is now faced with his own crimes.
The CCP will also face its own crimes soon."
Prior for Zhou Yongkang’s case to proceeded into the judicial
system, his alleged corruption of 100 billion yuan is said to be
huge enough to give him the death sentence.
Chinese affair expert Hu Xingdou also told the media that
Zhou Yongkang’s case is the most corrupt one since 1949.
Zhou Yongkang may be sentenced to death or reprieve.
