Monk Detained on Pretext of Inciting Subversion of State Power
A Chinese monk, known as Sheng Guan Master, was recently
arrested while teaching his Dharma in Wuhan.
He is being held prisoner on the trumped-up charge of
“inciting subversion of state power."
This news has become a sensitive and hot topic on the
Chinese Internet.
“Inciting subversion of state power" is habitually used
by the Chinese Marxist regime to attack dissidents and
protesters and to silence criticism
Shockingly, they have reached a new low. It is now used
against a Buddhist monk.
Chinese legal scholar Teng Biao stated on Twitter on May 18
that Sheng Guan Master was arrested during his preaching of
Dharma in Wuhan.
The authorities have charged him with the crime of “inciting
subversion of state power."
Sheng Guan Master, formerly known as Xu Zhiqiang,
graduated from China University of Technology.
He had been sentenced to a year in prison for
participating in the student movement in 1989.
He became a monk in 2001.
As a supervisor of the Huacheng Temple in Yichun, Jiangxi
Province, Sheng Guan held a memorial for the victims of the
June 4 Massacre and promoted financial disclosure of the
temple in 2006.
Subsequently, he was forced to leave the temple by dozens of
police officers.
In 2009, as the head monk of the Red Lotus Temple in
Liuyang, Hunan Province, he was once again removed for
organizing activities to commemorate Hu Yaobang.
On May 17, Sheng Guan was promoting Buddhism in Wuhan,
and a number of netizens attended the preaching.
Unexpectedly, Wuhan police broke into the lecture and
arrested Sheng Guan and participants, Ma Qiang, Chen
Jianxiong, Wan Li, and Cai Congfu.
Sheng Guan’s disciple, Guo Shi Master, indicates that she
had learned that Sheng Guan was arrested on the 18th along
with some of the disciples.
However, no written notice has been issued by the authorities.
Deutsche Welle reported that Sheng Guan is now detained in
Jiangan District Detention Center following interrogations.
Guo Shi Master believes the arrest is associated with the
approaching of the 25th anniversary of the June 4 Massacre.
She indicates it is the CCP’s act to raid activities for stability
maintenance prior to the June 4 memorial.
It constitutes religious persecution.
Guo Shi Master: “This is a religious persecution. It is obvious.
My master has said: ‘No monk will like the Communist
autocracy. That is what my master has said. I strongly agree.
It is an evil ideology, they will not like it.
If even a monk can not say the truth, then he does not deserve
to be a monk.
That is what my master has said, I support it.
Those are my words too."
Guo Shi indicates that the CCP has been monitoring and
profiling Sheng Guan Master for a very long time.
Guo Shi believes Sheng Guan was arrested because of his
compassion.
Guo Shi: “He has become a monk because of his faith.
He has been searching for the truth and seeking relief.
We have to have a deep understanding of the worldly matters
before we can preach about the Dharma.
We have to tell right from wrong, good from evil.
There must be a value, to deliver a correct value.
These are required by our beliefs.
We can not ignore things by shutting our ears, covering our
eyes and staying behind closed doors."
Dozens of people have been arrested by the CCP recently,
such as journalist Gao Yu, lawyers Pu Zhiqiang, Tang Jingling,
and Liu Shihui, legal scholar Xu Youyu, activist Hu Shigen.
Hu Jia, activist: “This is to weave a horror net to cover the
entire society, covering every social class and group.
This social terror is created to maintain its stability.
In every class you’ll find one that represents each one of us."
Activist Hu Jia believes that the June 4 anniversary this year
is obviously a great challenge for the Communist authorities.
They fear the recurrence of massive and political expression
in public that took place 25 years ago, especially now that
the social contradictions are profound in China.
The CCP tactic is to kill one to warn the rest.
Beijing lawyer Li Fangping wrote on his blog: Sheng Guan
Master was preaching Dharma in Wuhan, but arrested on
suspicion of ‘inciting subversion’.
Even his disciples Ma Qiang, Chen Jianxiong, Wan Li,
Cai Congfu who went for the preaching were also detained
on the same charges at the Jiangan Detention Center.
Even the ears can incite? What kind of law is this?
