Chinese Communist Regime Intensifies Suppression Of Human Rights Lawyers
The Chinese Communist Party continues to step
up it´s suppression of human rights lawyers.
This is despite international condemnation of the recent
detention and violent assault of lawyers in Jiansanjiang.
In recent days, Chinese state security assaulted Zhejiang
lawyer Wang Cheng and Guangdong lawyer Liu Shihui.
On Thursday, two attorneys defending the detained pastor
of the Nanle County Christian Church were illegally detained.
Suppressing lawyers will only cause
more Chinese people to awaken.
In Jiansanjiang, there are still 14 citizens detained by police.
On April 11, lawyers Lin Qilei, Huang Hanzhong,
and Yang Yongwei, as well as three Chinese
citizens went to Jiansanjiang detention center.
They were requesting a meeting with detained citizens.
The detention center director rejected
their request and expelled them.
At 12:00 on April 10, Beijing lawyer Huang Hanzhong and
citizens Ding Yan and Liu Shaoming visited Jiansanjiang.
Three police surrounded them and confiscated their ID´s
and mobile phones. Huang Hanzhong was pushed around.
Within 30 minutes, a police van arrived with
five or six police armed with submachine guns.
The lawyers were forced to leave quickly, and
even the taxi driver was fined with 200 yuan.
Lawyer Wang Cheng was detained in Jiansanjiang black jail
for 15 days, and suffered fractured bones from being beaten.
He was released and returned home, but
is once again subject to police harassment.
On April 11, Wang Cheng spoke to NTD reporters.
Water and power to his home has been cut off.
Police said this was instructed by the authorities.
He was threatened that he had to leave Hangzhou.
Wang Cheng indicates that his situation is now very difficult.
Wang Cheng: “My mother is 70 years old, and my
child is so small. There is no water or electricity.
Two people are always guarding the door,
along with using surveillance cameras.
There are always people following us wherever
we go, and there are more people these days.
The pressure is big. I also feel very troubled.”
Guangzhou rights lawyer Liu Shihui is another lawyer
being threatened and expelled by the authorities.
He had defended Chinese activist
Guo Feixiong, and was disbarred.
In the afternoon of April 11 when our reporter
contacted Liu Shihui, he said he was on a train.
He was being “protected” by police,
who did not allow him to say much.
He said he´ll keep in contact after returning to Inner Mongolia.
On April 9, police violently assaulted Liu Shihui.
They raided his home and forced him to
sign a form to “agree to voluntarily leave
Guangzhou, and not to return in 2014″.
The police forcibly expelled Liu Shihui
from Guangzhou on April 10.
Liu Shihui recorded the violent deportation.
During the afternoon of April 9, state security arrested
Liu Shihui, who later refused to sign the police report.
The state security then pulled his
ears and hair, and slapped his face.
He said that the devil punched his head three
times, and slapped his face four or five times.
The evil State Security has no heart, and they
target the head and face when they assault you.
Later, police handcuffed Liu Shihui and
assaulted him in the street in his neighborhood.
10 well-built men rummaged in his home and
took away the computers, mobile phones, U disk,
as well as dozen of books and documents.
rights lawyer Wang Quanping
was detained on charges of provocation.
This was because he had observed the trial of
Ding Jiaxi, an advocate of the New Citizen Movement.
In addition, lawyers Zhao Yonglin and Liu Weiguo
were suppressed for refusing to co-operate with the
court during the hearing of the Nanle pastor case.
Liu Weiguo, Beijing human rights lawyer: “When the court
was adjourned, it kept us there with all sorts of excuses.
Firstly, they said it´s the mandatory security check,
then it´s that we should sign the court transcripts.
Of course we can sign the transcript, but
not under circumstances of being forced.
So, they kept us there for more than two hours.”
Liu Weiguo says that the persecution of human
rights lawyers has been prominent in recent years.
He believes there are two reasons.
Liu Weiguo: “One is that illegal conduct
of local governments have intensified.
Lawyers refused to give in for
maintaining the power of the law.
The conflict is becoming more prominent.
The other reason is that more lawyers dare to fight against
this injustice, to maintain the dignity of the rule of law.”
Liu Weiguo points out that each violation, and
particularly the suppression of lawyers, will only
result in awakening more lawyers and citizens.
