网际网路搜索引擎巨头“谷歌”公司董事长埃里克．施密特，1月23号在瑞士达沃斯发表谈话说，“谷歌”公司计划以加密技术，进入中国和朝鲜这类实施严格审查制度的国家，“让人民能发声”。
施密特在“达沃斯世界经济论坛”的一次周边会议上说，谷歌的工作将会使政府无法入侵个人电脑系统，中国人终将会克服政府的审查。
施密特还在讲话中批评了中共的工业间谍行为，他说，80%到85%的工业间谍行动，据信是由中共干的，“没有什么其他国家能接近这个规模。”
律师：许志永新公民运动案周日宣判
22号开庭审理的“新公民运动”发起人许志永“涉嫌聚众扰乱公共场所秩序”一案，将在1月26号宣布判决结果。
许志永的律师张庆方24号表示，北京第一中级法院通知他，案件将在26号早上开庭宣判，许志永的姐姐将到庭旁听。
张庆方认为，中共当局对许志永案早就有定论，估计最重会被判5年。不过，无论结果如何，他们都会提出上诉。
许志永案从开审到宣判不到一周，法院在这么短的时间内完成所有程序，在大陆十分罕见。
美海湾大桥成百裂缝 中方工程遭质疑
据《美国之音》报导，美国加州州议会参议院1月22号发布一份调查报告，就连接旧金山和奥克兰的“海湾大桥”东段重建工程质量，提出质疑。
这份报告是加州参议院的运输和住房委员会，委托民间顾问做出。
报告指出，负责在中国监督焊接的工程师詹姆士•梅里尔向调查员表示，他的员工发现焊接部分有数以百计的裂缝。
调查报告还指出，2008年，官员不理会桥段的地脚螺栓没有通过适当测试的警告，去年3月，几十个螺栓在拴紧的过程中断裂，修复工作花费了2500万美元。
报导说，加州州议会24号将就此举行听证会。
加州州议会参议院运输和住房委员会主席马克•德索尼尔表示，如果调查确定，一些问题会移交司法单位起诉。
1989年，美国加州旧金山地区发生强烈地震，导致连接旧金山和奥克兰的“海湾大桥”部分断裂，东段的部分后来投入63亿美元重建，去年九月完工，但一直存在工程质量问题。

Google New Technology Plan to Break China Internet Blockade
On January 23, internet search engine giant Google
Chairman Eric. Schmidt spoke in Davos, Switzerland.
Google plans to use encryption technology to help
people in China and Korea who have strict censorship.
Schmidt spoke at event at the World Economic
Forum, that Google plans to make the Chinese
regime unable to invade personal computers.
The Chinese people will eventually
overcome the regimes censorship.
Schmidt also criticized the industrial scale
espionage of the Chinese Communist Party.
He said 80% to 85% of industrial espionage is from
China, “because no country can reach this extent".
Xu Zhiyong Lawyer: Case Will Be Sentenced On Sunday
The result of the case of Xu Zhiyong,
one of the founders of the New Citizens
movement, will be announced on January 26.
Xu Zhiyong is charged with assembling to disturb public order.
Xu Zhiyong’s lawyer Zhang Qingfang
spoke about the case on January 24.
Beijing First Intermediate People’s Court informed him that
the case will be sentenced on the morning of January 26.
Xu Zhiyong’s sister will sit in.
Zhang Qingfang believes that the Chinese authorities
already have made a conclusion, of 5 years in prison.
However, they will appeal, regardless of the outcome.
It’s rare in China that Xu Zhiyong’s case took less
than a week from the trial starting to the verdict.
Chinese San Francisco Bay Bridge Project Under Investigation
On January 22, according to a “Voice of America" report,
the California State Senate released an investigative report.
The report is into the quality of a re-development of the
eastern span of Bay Bridge between San Francisco
and Oakland, which was fabricated in Shanghai, China.
Californian Senate Transportation and Housing Committee
has entrusted a private consultant to create the report.
The report pointed out that welding engineer James Merrill,
who was inspected welding work, told investigators that
his staff have found hundreds of cracks in the welding.
The study also pointed out that officials ignored warnings
about the anchor bolt failing appropriate tests in 2008.
Last March, it took $25 million to
repair dozens of broken anchor bolts.
The report said the California legislature
will hold a hearing on January 24.
Mark Desaulnier, Chairman of the California State Senate
Transportation and Housing Committee, said that they would
prosecute if there is problem found during the investigation.
In 1989, a strong earthquake in California made the Bay
Bridge between San Francisco and Oakland fracture.
Reconstruction of the eastern part was completed last
September, costing $ 6.3 billion, but still faces problems.
