CCP authorities say 17 infant deaths not linked to vaccine
China has been frequently seeing infants dying
after receiving hepatitis B shots.
There have already been 17 infants who have lost their lives
after getting the shot which has fueled public concern.
Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities say
no quality problem was found in the vaccines,
and the infants’ deaths were only due to “coincidence."
The statement enraged the victims’ families,
who then went to Beijing to petition to the Ministry of Health.
“Don’t cry. The needle has pierced into your body.
Satan’s craziness is hidden behind a disguise in angel.
The needle not only went into your arm, but also thrust
into my heart.
For a world like this, I can’t feel any sadder."
Since last December, cases of infants’ deaths after vaccine
injections appeared in provinces including Hunan, Jiangsu,
Guangdong, Zhejiang, Anhui, Gansu, Sichuan and Hubei.
Seventeen infants have lost their lives
after receiving hepatitis B shots.
The three medical producers of the vaccines, Shenzhen
Biokangtai Biological Products Co., Beijing Tiantan Biological
Products Co. and Dalian Hissen Bio-Pharm,
have stopped production since the New Year.
The CCP’s Centers for Disease Control
took a survey after the incident.
The survey shows that among 701 parents, 30 percent now
hesitate to receive preventive vaccinations.
Another 20 percent directly say they won’t let their babies
have vaccine shots.
On Dec. 17, Shenzhen Biokangtai Co. denied links
between infants’ deaths and their vaccines,
saying the deaths were only “coincidence".
Half a month later, on Jan. 3 the CCP’s Food and Drug
Administration (CFDA) made a joint announcement with
the National Health and Family Planning Commission.
They claimed data investigation showed that Biokangtai’s
hepatitis B vaccines had no quality problems, and were not
responsible for the deaths of the infants.
Biokangtai will also resume production soon.
Wu Yan, parent of infant victim: “Passing all the deaths off
as coincidence is a huge lie to deceive the public.
The announcement did not even clearly mention whether
infants’ diseases occurred before or after injection.
As an example, one of the babies
died of multiple organ failure.
If the problem was already present before injection,
the baby would be beyond cure, and it would be murder
if you let a baby receive the shot in that case.
On the other hand, if the injury occurred after injection,
then it should be an adverse reaction caused by the shot.
The official statement does not make sense in either case."
Guizhou resident Wu Yan’s baby suffered paralysis of the
lower limbs, caused by another vaccine injection.
The related authorities did nothing to help his baby,
but just concluded it as a “coincidental death".
Wu Yan says that all parents of victim infants had been
told that their baby died of “coincidental diseases".
Such a conclusion has driven all of them to
immediately visit Beijing to petition.
Wu Yan: “The authorities are simply
escaping the truth of the infants’ deaths.
They always tell you the case was under investigation,
and then a few months later say the death is a ‘coincidence’.
So many parents were treated this way and told the death
was ‘coincidental’. We must deny such an absurd conclusion.
You can say one or two deaths are coincidental.
But how can you say that for a hundred deaths?"
The son of Fan Rongmei, a resident of Guilin, Guangxi
Province, died of lymphadenitis after injection of cancer
vaccine at five month old.
Fan Rongmei, parent of infant victim from Guilin city:"
The health department played all the roles.
They purchased the vaccines, investigated the deaths
and were also responsible for compensation.
When they said the vaccine had no problem
I found evidence to overturn their conclusion.
Then they re-investigated the case, but again
I found evidence contrary to what they said.
Now they’ve simply avoided the truth,
telling me to directly visit the Ministry of Health.
My baby died seven months ago
but there is still no governmental agency handling my case.
Now I have lost both my child and my savings,
just trying to protect my legal rights."
Fan Rongmei has persisted in petitioning on the issue, and
this time, she’s calling on the authorities and the media to
provide more information on vaccination and immunization.
She also hopes the authorities could take action to remedy
problems when something goes wrong with a vaccination,
so as to avoid more infant deaths.
Fan Rongmei:"I hope things like this will never happen again.
Each child is dear to their parents.
It’s hard to exactly express my feelings. I really feel bad as
so many babies die of vaccine injections.
It happens every day. These are human lives, not dogs!"
In the Shanxi Vaccine Scandal of 2007, the involved vaccines
were confirmed by CCP authorities to be toxic.
Yet the editor-in-chief Bao Yueyang of China Economic Times,
which first reported the case, was still removed from post,
the newspaper’s investigation group was forcibly dismissed,
and the story’s reporter Wang Keqin was also fired.
Furthermore, CCP authorities “solved" the problem by telling
victim families the deaths were “coincidences".
Yi Wenlong, a rights activist for the vaccination victims,
told NTD that they had petitioned with the victims many times,
but they were always tricked by the Ministry of Health.
The ministry even commanded local governments to punish
them with false charges of mobbing and
disturbing public order.
