Chinese Regime Strengthen Control of News and Journalism Students
A Chinese government website has launched
four official microblogs and chatrooms.
News reports suggest the Central Propaganda
Department will lead creation of new journalism schools.
It will require strengthening ‘Marxism News View’
education to cultivate excellent party journalists.
Provincial propaganda officials will be
directors of each journalism school.
Under the Chinese regimes two-pronged ideological
control, some scholars suggest the authorities have
never relaxed control of journalism education.
Chinese authorities appear discontent with liberal ideas
and prevailing Western thought spreading in Universities.
They think that it is because of an ineffective Marxist news
system and education, which needs vigorous transformation.
Professor Wu Fei, from Zhejiang University Media and
International Culture School, microblogged recently.
According to reliable sources, the state will vigorously
reform the Journalism and Communication degree.
The Central Propaganda Department will lead the
restructuring of the top ten Journalism schools.
These will include Fudan, Renmin,
Jinan and Wuhan University.
The Central Propaganda Department is thought
to notified the relevant provinces and universities
to adopt methods of co-creating Journalism schools.
This will be with Shanghai Municipal Party Committee
Propaganda Department and Fudan University, with
a Dean from the Provincial Propaganda Department.
They also required the strengthening Marxist
education to nurture excellent Party journalists.
Chinese authorities stressed the need to uphold Marxist
views against the Western so-called freedom of press.
China’s media belongs to the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP), as a propaganda tool
to control information flow and people’s ideology.
Since the authorities strictly control all dissemination of
information, it is already disconnected from original Marxism.
Jiao Guobiao, Former Associate Professor
at Peking University Journalism School:
“Marxist journalism is a struggle for freedom.
CCP Marxism is actually not true to itself,
and embedded in a lot of bad things.
They added theories from Lenin, Stalin, Mao Zedong,
Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin about news control.
So it is not Marxism, but all sorts
of things from so-called Marxists."
Zhang Tianliang, US China political commentator:
“The CCP disseminates Marxism, but is anti-Marxist.
They use Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought,
and Deng Xiaoping Theory to transform Marxism
step by step until it is no longer recognizable."
In October this year, the CCP Administration of Press
and Publication issued a notice, requiring that national
reporters and editors go through the Marxist training.
They will need to be assessed before
being re-issued with a press card.
A microblog called “Southern Review" responded,
asking, “will it be easier for journalism students
to get a job after the restructuring of education?"
Some netizens said it will revert journalism
education into the Central Party School.
Zhang Tianliang: “Socialism has faced complete failure since
the breakup of Soviet Union and changes in eastern Europe.
Since the Soviet Union collapsed, other socialist
countries can also see its impending failure.
Actually, CCP officials including those Marxist
professors, do not truly believe Marxism.
The professors only want to take these opportunities
to carry out their job lecturing and make some money."
Zhu Jianguo, Shenzhen Political columnist: “The CCP has no
other way to relieve grievances and use such theory again.
History has proved the ideology to be a fallacy,
as it can only temporarily strengthen social control.
It is a dead end to use such brainwashing as an excuse for
autocracy on public opinion, media and people’s freedom."
In August this year, the Central Committee
journal “Seeking Truth" published and article:
“One Should Conscientiously Adhere to Marxism News View".
This said very clearly that China cannot have a
Western news system and Western media freedom.
This is because China cannot afford the
Consequences of uncontrolled public opinion.
