Made in China: Buyers Be Careful!

The once super-low price products from China are currently
facing an unprecedented crisis of credibility.
With the world constantly exposing the quality issues of
goods made in China, made- in- China" has become
the synonymous with inferior quality.
Suddenly, voices against made-in-China come from everywhere.

However, some people still choose goods made in China
because they are inexpensive.
Unfortunately, people may pay a much higher price later.

On August 7, New York Times published an article entitled
“What You Pay for Things Made in China."
It said that the longest suspension bridge in North America
needs repair and maintenance due to prolonged usage.
The United States outsourced $ 34 million work in production
and construction to China.
However, the announcement caused uproar.

Tom Conway, Vice Chairman of the American Iron and Steel
Association provided the real reason in choosing China:
Chinese workers hourly wage is half of that of the U.S. workers.

But U.S. lawmakers said: “They were concerned that Chinese
manufacturers lack professional experience and may lead to inferior products."

Professor Su Qiliang, at Department of Civil Engineering,
University of Hong Kong: “In the process of construction,
supervision may not be very strict and can cause some
problems.
Mainly, in construction, it may be a little too fast;
workers may not have a lot of professional knowledge.
Some construction companies hire farmers to build houses.

Farmers have to learn how to build houses first,
and therefore, there will be quality issues."

Another reason, which makes the American people uncomfortable,
is safety issue, causing by the inferior quality.
In building materials, for example, there are reports that shoddy
building materials in Mainland China almost filled the entire
construction sector, resulting in a large number of accidents
and casualties.
Statistics show that 19 bridges collapsed during a flood this year,
in Sichuan province alone.
Dr. Lau, the Bridge king from Hong Kong, points out that

poor quality is the main reason causing relatively high degree
of damage to bridges in Mainland China.

A staff member of Quality and Technical Supervision at
Luoyang City: “One possibility is poor quality of raw materials,
and anther is poor quality of construction.
It may have other factors too."
Earthquake expert, Ma Zongjin reveals that 2,000 experts’
inspected the earthquake in Sichuan, and they concluded
building materials were not strong enough and constructing
too fast was also one of reasons causing buildings to collapse during an earthquake.
Su Qiliang: “Reinforcement is also a problem in Mainland.

If that is not done well, substandard materials may be
used to build bridges and houses. Oh, well, all these are management issues."

The New York Times cited the recently completed Oakland
Bay Bridge project in California as example.
In order to cut cost, California authorities chose
the cheap Chinese steel.
Due to defects in welding, many segments of the bridge
needed to be rebuilt, paying a huge price.
U.S. media commentators believe that whether it is steel
in construction or a doll, buyers will pay a hidden cost.
This view has been the consensus of many countries.

For example, a label, “This product does not contain any raw
materials from China," appears on an Australian food packaging;
The Thai Health Bureau is warning consumers to be careful
when buying Chinese food items,
especially fruits and vegetables that may contain
a lot of harmful pesticides.
From pet food, toys, pharmaceuticals, toothpaste,
to seafood and other items,
Chinese-made products are repeatedly banned
in Europe and America.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a report,
saying that China is the worst offender of U.S. food safety standards.
All of a sudden, made- in- China has lost all values
besides being low in prices.
Canadian Chinese: “It is a quality issue.
After using it for a while, many problems will surface.
For instance, the bottom of the shoes will break in two
or fall off after wearing them for a while.
Clothes will wear out fast, the buckle of the bag
will fall off, and the seam will open."
NTD reporter: “Why did you want to buy it then? “
Canadian Chinese: “Well, because it is inexpensive!"
USA Today, America’s largest-circulation daily newspaper,
pointed out that
there seems to be another meaning in the made-in-China goods,
and that is, “buyers be careful!"
