Unified Statement Regarding Bo Xilai
Confronted with the exposure of the crimes of Bo Xilai,
the former Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
Secretary of Chongqing,
local officials, and top military personnel showed
their stands on the Bo case to the central CCP;
Bo Xilai’s recent indictment doesn’t seem to have
caused many reactions. But there are still reactions.
Official and private forums appeared unified in
their statements, and critical of Bo, this is rare.
all praised the so-called anti-corruption
determination of the CCP.
But is this real public opinion? Or is it just a show?
Beijing CCP Secretary Guo Jinlong became the
first official to show his stand on Bo Xilai case.
He said during the party’s educational activities held
in Beijing on July 26, 27,
Guo said the processing of Bo’s case reflects
the determination of the CCP to control the Party
and to advance the so-called
“rule the country with law" philosophy.
Meanwhile, at major forums in China,
Guo appeared many times.
Many said the same thing to Guo, criticizing Bo Xilai.
They advocated the CCP anti-corruption drive, the
regime’s determination, and it’s so-called honorable image.
However, overseas Chinese media reporting on July 28,
is on line with Bo Xilai’s case.
The Central Propaganda Department recently sent a large
number of 50- cent workers to fabricate public opinion.
This news has been confirmed by sharp-eyed Chinese.
Netizen “little fish talks" posted, “NetEase reported
Bo’s trial news, and it attracted over 3,000 comments, all praise the CCP’s brilliance.
Perhaps this news is special,
50 cents increased to five yuan,
the workload to delete posts that were more truthful
also increased tenfold."
U.S. current affairs commentator Lan Shu: “All the problems
of CCP will end up with the glory and correctness of the CCP;
the question is local and individual.
It is the relationship of nine fingers with one finger,
this situation has been talked about in such terms
since the era of Mao.”
In the traditional media, or the emerging online media,
the authorities behave just like in the courtroom and will beat Bo Xilai, the drowning tiger.
The propaganda convinces them,
but apparently will not convince others.
Lan Shu: “These phenomena reflect on official media reports.
It reflects compromise with high-level factions. It avoids
political issues, and only talks about economic issues.
It avoids CCP struggles between stands
of different factions,
and only talks about personal problems of Bo Xilai.
The purpose is to maintain the stability of the regime.”
Political observer Hua Po: “The trial of Bo Xilai will
put an end to his case, and the regime does not want to cause great turmoil in society,
because Chinese society has been in
a mess, with all kinds of serious incidents.”
Hong Kong media believe that there are too many political
considerations related to Bo’s case, and anti- corruption can easily become a joke.
For example, what the authorities said before Bo’s case
was about anti-corruption and abuse of power.
But today it announced Bo Xilai is
suspected of embezzling 25 million yuan,
half the amount of Liu Zhijun, former Minister of
Railways, who was sentenced to life imprisonment.
It is an incredibly petty offence, and unable to
convince 1.3 billion Chinese people.
Authorities have avoided the major crimes of Bo Xilai, such
as organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners.
Hua Po: “Some of Bo’s crimes are very serious, and
cannot be revealed to the world, because if announced,
the legitimacy of CCP rule will be gone."
Although domestic media makes no mention, this
allegation against Bo Xilai still raises overseas concern.
American writer Ethan Gutmann published an article,
Bodies in an Exhibition, in The Weekly Standard,
July 29 issue, questioning the source of the bodies,
Gutmann focuses on Bo and Wang’s systematic organ
harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners.
Gutmann estimates that some 65,000 practitioners
were secretly killed.
