CCP Steps Up Efforts to Dissolve Overseas Democracy Movement
Recently, activities are being held around the world to observe
the upcoming 24th anniversary of the “June 4th Movement."
Pro-democracy activists expressed that the
Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is intensifying efforts to
divide and dissolve the overseas democracy movement,
due to fear of its impact. Commentators point out that,
with the sharp decline of the CCP’s credibility,
effects of its usual means to divide people is getting weaker.
According to reports from around the world,
activities to commemorate the “June 4th Movement”
are being held in the U.S., Canada, South America,
Australia, Thailand, HK and other countries.
On June 1, the US Independent Federation of Chinese
Students and Scholars held a “June 4th 24th anniversary vigil"
in front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C.
The Wei Jingsheng Foundation and the Washington
Federation of Overseas HK Chinese co-organized the event.
Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition (OCDC)
chairman Wei Jingshen gave a speech during the event,
on differences and conflicts among
overseas democracy activists.
He hopes people realize the importance of
overseas democracy activities and
encourages people to continue with it and
remain unaffected by the conflicts.
Wei Jingsheng told the media that
the CCP authorities recently shifted their attention
to democracy organizations overseas again,
and have started a new round of interference.
Wei Jingsheng: “At least now we can see
the several methods the CCP uses:
One is to get old spies who’ve mingled among
pro-democracy activists and some new spies to write books.
They talk about long being part of the democracy movement,
and about how bad it is inside the pro-democracy movement.
They do it in order to slander democracy activists
so as to weaken their impact on Chinese people.
Another very important aspect is to divide and create conflicts.
It’s also happened for democracy activists in Hong Kong.”
Wei Jingsheng talked about the recent intense
internal debate among democratic activists in Hong Kong.
Some people claimed themselves
as a “local faction," and that the
“June 4th Movement" happened in mainland China,
so Hong Kong people shouldn’t participate.
They try to pull away a lot of young people this way.
Wei thinks while those people aren’t necessarily spies, the ways
used to divide public opinion show the support by CCP spies.
This behavior hasn’t stopped in the past 20 years.
Wei Jingsheng: “The CCP started to create divisions
among overseas democracy activists 20 years ago,
including slandering them and creating conflicts.
They mix into the group and create problems among people.
So democracy movements have made many smaller groups.
It’s been like that for the past 20 years.
Of course, the CCP is happy about this,
but it really pains the people’s hearts.”
Former Hebei Radio Station editor Zhu Xinxin:
“The CCP using its minions to interfere overseas is nothing new,
and it’s been doing it for a long time. This method of dividing,
disintegrating, and infiltrating was also used on the Kuomintang.
Meanwhile, it also indicates overseas democracy activists
are threats to them and to a certain extent impacted the
CCP’s image in the international community.”
Wei Jingsheng also pointed out, the CCP not only tries
to make divisions among democracy activists,
but also among other persecuted groups like Falun Gong,
religious groups, minorities, etc.
Wei Jingsheng: “This includes spy activities
among Tibetan, Uighur, and Mongolian organizations.
Starting in 1999, we formed the “Asia Democracy Alliance”
to include different ethnic groups and Vietnamese friends.
The CCP saw our unity, so their spies among these groups
came out and asked for splitting from the Han people.
They use nationalism to create conflicts.”
Wei Jingsheng says he hopes that all democracy activists
and groups persecuted by the CCP can unite,
differentiate friends and enemies, and work together to
disintegrate CCP, end the dictatorship and realize democracy.
