Chinese Military Official Claims: Bird Flu Will Kill Just a Few!
When H7N9 outbreak in China drew public concern and
a call on research for possible solutions,
a senior air force official stated in his Internet post, ´
“Don´t worry about the bird flu. It will kill just a few.”
This comment immediately aroused criticism
on the internet as “inhumane.”
On the evening of April 6,
an Internet post drew many criticisms.
It stated, “The high official in charge must not pay
any attention to the latest bird flu news.
Otherwise, we too will be cheated just like
the SARS outbreak in 2003.”
“It will kill just a few, not even a thousandth of
the deaths from car accidents in China.”
This comment came from Dai Xu, a colonel and
lecturer at the National Defense University and a war hawk at the Chinese Air Force.
This “extreme” theory quickly made the colonel an enemy
of the public and a target for other Internet posts.
Shanghai resident Wang Jianhua: “He is a bastard,
a gang member, the devil. He speaks nonsense out of the interests of his official post."
A netizen, Anhui Bengbu: “The propaganda of
the Communist obscurantism has caused this.
That air force colonel is submissive to the propaganda.
His remarks are both stupid and shameless.
With the population of China, what is one-thousandth or
one- ten thousandth? Every life has equal value.
This reflects the ignorance, stupidity,
and complete inhumanity of the Chinese army."
Many popular Internet commentators accused Dai Xu
to be lacking in respect for human lives and stated,
“This is inhumane,” “It is an insult to people´s lives and IQ."
Writer Li Chengpeng, Beijing law expert Xu Xin,
and journalist in finance Luo Changping,
all have indicated that Dai Xu must resign and
apologize to the families of the deceased.
Political commentator Xing Tianxin: “In fact,
this kind of publicity, a theory lacking in any human logic,
has long been the method used as a brainwashing technique
by the Central Propaganda Department.
Many people have been deluded by this type of brainwashing.
It covers up the fact that, CCP has been first of all,
ignoring lives, and secondly, irresponsible.
This type of theory means the regime will simply shirk its
responsibilities for any life-threatening epidemic and disasters."
Some Internet posts listed several similar anti-humane
theories from the Communist officials.
They seemed to suggest that they are used to the fact that
the regime cares not one bit for human life.
User Shi Qiyuan wrote: Forty years ago a devil said, “China
is ready to sacrifice half the population for the nuclear war”.
Ten years, ago, a major general said, “China is ready to sacrifice all cities in the east of Xi’an”.
Five years ago, it was said, “Take over Taiwan
even if only weed is left in Taiwan”.
Now, Dai Xu said, “The bird flu will kill only some,
but it´s less than one-thousandth the deaths of car accidents. It´s no big deal”.
Facing all these Internet attacks, Dai Xu quickly deleted
his post and published a new one in the early morning.
The phrase, “It will just kill a few, not even a thousandth
of the deaths from car accidents in China,” was gone.
In his post, Dai Xu also stated a conspiracy theory of
anti-China from the West.
He wrote, “When America was fighting in Iraq,
fearing China would take the advantage to get on its mission,
the bio-psychological weapons were used to create chaos
in China. That was exactly what the American´s wanted. Now, America is doing it again.”
Political commentator Xing Tianxin:
“Whenever a catastrophe occurs in China,
the Communist regime never analyzes the issue from the
perspective of human nature to help resolve the problem,
but rather, one from the conspiracy theory of
anti-Chinese forces and struggle."
A netizen Xia Shang, wrote, “To these officials,
people’s lives are as insignificant as those of ants.
There are war hawks in America, but they target the
external enemies to protect their own country and people,
not to eliminate their own compatriots.”
