Journalist Jailed for Criticizing Bo Is Released Early
Former China Business Times editorial director, Gao Yingpu,
was released from prison on the 20th, 6 months early.
He was sentenced for 3 years in prison for “inciting
subversion of state power" due to an article criticizing Bo Xilai’s Chongqing model.
His early release is believed to be related to
the fall of Bo Xilai.
In a telephone interview, Gao’s wife Li Danxin,
told the reporter that
Gao Yingpu was not available due to taking
care of his sick mother at the hospital.
As for the early release, Li did not talk much.
Li Danxin: “He is in a good condition.
His mother is sick at the hospital.
He is spending time in taking care of
his mother at the hospital.”
Li spoke of the reason why Gao Yingpu was arrested.
Li Danxin: “I think it was because he said something
about Bo Xilai and Wang Lijun at an inappropriate time.”
Li Danxin said that Gao Yingpu is considering appeal.
Li Danxin: “We may appeal. The Chinese New Year
is approaching, and he is not settled yet.
Now his mother is hospitalized.
Everything is still up in the air."
Gao Yingpu was arrested in July 2010 by Chongqing police.
Zhan Jiang, a professor of the Beijing Foreign Studies
University, revealed on microblogging that Gao was arrested because of an on-line diary he wrote in 2009.
He criticized the Chongqing model when Bo Xilai,
the then head of Chongqing, was tightening censorship.
According to the verdict issued by Chongqing Municipal
First Intermediate People’s Court, Gao Yingpu admitted that
his on-line articles criticized the authority system
Gao Yingpu, former editorial director of China Business
Times, interviewed two of the Communist regime leaders in the late 1980s.
His on-line articles criticizing Chongqing’s “honoring
the Communism and hitting the gangsters”
got him a three-year sentence with the charge of “inciting
subversion of state power" by the Chongqing authorities.
Gao Yingpu’s friend disclosed online that the authorities
did not allow appeal after he was sentenced secretly.
Gao himself agreed to the verdict.
In a written statement he agreed not to appeal.
Under Chongqing’s request, Gao’s wife also released
a written statement saying she would not reveal any information about the case.
Former Chongqing Forestry Bureau official Fang Hung
was also imprisoned for criticizing Bo.
Fang Hung believes Gao’s early release was related
to Bo’s downfall.
Former Chongqing Forestry Bureau official Fang Hung:
“The fall of Bo and Wang is the end of fascist dictatorship in Chongqing.
Chongqing is now self-correcting.
There is no legal system, but self-correcting.
That is, the Communism will continue and not allow
others to criticize. This is clear from Ren Jianyu’s case."
At the National People’s Congress in Chongqing, Mayor
Huang Qifan claimed to eliminate the adverse effects of Bo Xilai’s ruling.
But Fang Hung does not believe Chongqing
will vindicate the many injustices during Bo’s ruling.
According to Fang Hung, there were more than
5,800 people imprisoned in 2011.
There is no way to find out the exact number of those
who were imprisoned because of censorship.
Fang Hung: “First, in politics, the Communist regime
must trample the law.
They will not negate the hitting the gangsters done
by Wang Lijun and Bo Xilai.
Second, Chongqing has confiscated more than
170 billion yuan from so many businesses,
including 500 billion yuan is confirmed by the regime.
Where is the money now?
Third, many investigators are involved in so many
trumped-up cases. The regime can not afford it."
Fang Hung also indicates Chongqing at that time
was in a fascist state.
Fang Hung received a year of imprisonment in the labor camp
because of a microblog he wrote which dogged Bo Xilai.
Chongqing Intermediate People’s Court decided
the reeducation through labor decision made by Chongqing labor camp Commission was illegal.
Fang Hung’s law suite against Chongqing Labor Camp
Commission will reach a verdict next Thursday.
