曾发出公开信要坚守言论自由的《南方周末》官方微博，1月6号晚上，传出账号被官方接管的消息。
先是一名编辑部成员在自己的个人微博上发出：“nfzm（南方周末）今晚恐将蒙难，就在今夜。”的消息。 8分钟后，署名“凤端”的网友，又在新浪微博贴出据说是《南方周末》人员吴蔚的声明，说“本人已向协助分管南方周末新媒体业务的总经理毛哲上缴新浪微博账号＠南方周末的密码，对此账号即将发布的声明以及今后所有内容，本人将不负任何责任。”
2分钟后，《南方周末》官方微博就贴出了“致读者”声明，说网上有关《南方周末》新年特刊遭篡改的“传言不实”。
署名“南方周末记者声明”的网友表示，经过一天的攻防过后，《南方周末》官方微博失守！所作声明不能代表《南方周末》采编人员态度，为有关当局施压《南方周末》管理层的结果。《南方周末》采编人员将与此不实声明抗争到底。
多名学者联署促胡春华罢免庹震
1月6号，一份由多名中港台学者联署，向中共广东省委书记胡春华要求“罢免广东省委宣传部长庹震”的公开建议书，也在微博上流传。
这封公开信是针对广州《南方周末》2013新年献辞被删改事件而发出的。信中批评庹震“为官霸道”，“不顾新闻作业规律，夜半擅自换稿”，还犯下“2000年前大禹治水”之类的不能容忍的低级错误，大禹治水是在4000年前。
建议书表示，担心庹震会给广东省委带来更多负面影响，并可能“令改革开放的广东传统丧失”，要求尽快罢免庹震的广东省委宣传部长职务。
德国记者贵州采访遭袭击
据《德国之声》报导，德国《明镜》周刊资深编辑、记者贝恩哈特•赞德（Bernhard Zand），最近在贵州采访调查期间，旅馆房间被不明身份者破门而入，电脑、手机等器材被破坏。他的中方助手的房间也遭袭击。
报导引述“记者无疆界”组织发布的消息说，赞德和他的助手当时正在贵州调查“毕节市5名流浪儿童在垃圾箱中丧生事件”的背景。
“记者无疆界”组织要求中共当局尽快调查事件真相，并指出，中共当局有系统的用审查和威胁的方式，阻挠媒体报导国内理应受到批评的种种现象。使在中国的记者面对的工作条件日益恶化。

Southern Weekly’s Weibo Account Taken Over by Official
On Jan. 6th the Weibo account of Southern Weekly, claiming
to insist on freedom of speech was taken over by an official.
Ahead of the news release, a newsroom staff posted on his
weibo “nfzm (Southern Weekly) will have a disaster tonight.”
8 minutes later, a netizen named “Fengduan” also posted
that a Southern Weekly staff called Wu Wei announced
“I have turned over the password of Southern Weekly’s Sina
Weibo account to Mao Zhe, manager of new media business.
I won’t be responsible to any content posted by this account
from now on.”
Just after this post, Southern Weekly’s official weibo posted
a note to readers saying the rumor on the internet of articles
on Southern Weekly’s new year special edition being falsified
is untrue.
A netizen entitled “Southern Weekly Reporter Statement”
says after 24 hours battle, Southern Weekly’s Weibo fell.
The announcement that Southern Weekly can’t represent
editorial staffs’ attitudes, is the result of authority putting pressure on its management level.
Editorial staff of Southern Weekly will fight
against the untruthful announcement.
Scholars’ Joint Appeal for Hu Chunhua to Dismiss Tuo Zhen
On Jan.6th a public proposal jointly signed by scholars from
mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan is on Weibo.
The proposal is to request Guangdong Province Communist
Party Secretary Hu Chunhua to dismiss Guangdong Province Committee Propaganda minister Tuo Zhen.
The public proposal is due to the case of 2013
Southern Weekly special edition being falsified.
The proposal says Tuo Zhen is overbearing as an official,
and he changed the articles without permission.
He also made a low-level error in the changed article
by saying that Dayu flood control happened 2000 years ago which should actually be 4000 years ago.
In the proposal, the scholars expressed their worries for the
negative influence Tuo Zhen brings to Guangdong Province.
They say the reform, opening up and the traditions of
Guangdong province may get destroyed because of Tuo Zhen.
They request to dismiss Tuo Zhen from the position of
Guangdong Province propaganda minister immediately.
German Reporter Was Attacked During Interview Investigation
Deutsche Welle reported that Bernhard Zand, senior editor
and reporter of German media Der Spiegel, was attacked
during an interview investigation in Guizhou Province.
An unidentified man broke into his hotel room and
ruined his computer, cell phone and other devices.
His Chinese assistant’s room was also attacked.
The report quoted a message released by Reporters Without
Borders that Zand and his assistant were investigating the
background of the five homeless children dead in a dumpster.
Reporter Without Borders requests the Chinese Communist
Party (CCP)to investigate the attack as soon as possible.
It also pointed out that CCP has obstructed media reporting
on critical incidents in China by means of review and threats.
This leads to a worse and worse working environment for
Chinese reporters.
