5 Guizhou Youngsters Die of Cold in Trash Refuge
5 street children were found dead in a rubbish bin
in Bijie, Guizhou.
An official investigation reported they kept fire in
the refuge and had died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
This tragic incident immediately lead to
great public attention.
Authorities are questioned for continuous tragedies
like this, against all the official reports which effect people’s everyday living.
Netizens exposed that Bijie Municipal Secretary wears belts
of world top brands, truly making him a “belt brother.”
Mainland media reported the five boys to be
about 10 years old.
On the morning of Nov. 16th, a garbage lady found
the boys in a trash bin in Bijie City, Guizhou Province.
The trash bin is on the sidewalk of Seven Star Ring East Road,
less than 100 meters away from local government offices.
Bijie authorities later released results of the investigation,
saying the five children had died of carbon monoxide poisoning,
not traumatic death or death by asphyxiation.
In addition, the rubbish bins had shown traces of charcoal,
caused by fire from previous heating and burning.
Reports say Bijie City is in the northwest mountainous
territory of Guizhou Province.
The lowest temperature was on the 15th, reaching s 6 °C
with slight rain all night.
These trash refuge deaths have attracted public attention.
Over a million posts discussed this issue on Sina microblog.
People deplore the deaths of these five children and ask:
“Are officials making it their business,
are they paying enough attention to the livelihood of
these people, and to care for the flowers of this country?"
Netizens released how right before CCP’s 18th Assembly,
Bijie Party Secretary Zhang Jiyong declared that
human life is even heavier than Mount Tai,
and that he will endeavor to heighten people’s happiness index.
But insightful netizens found he wears a branded belt of top
luxury, thus calling him “belt brother.”
Netizens sigh, now the children have died, yet the
Party Secretary still wears his extravagantly dazzling belt.
Our reporter called Bureau of Civil Affairs in Bijie City
to ask about this tragedy.
The staff who answered the phone said he is not familiar
with the case and refused to comment.
Bijie City Bureau of Civil Affairs staff:
“Our office is not responsible for this, but other departments of Civil Affairs Bureau should be in charge of it.
I’ve just arrived at my place of work.
The bureau is holding a meeting to further investigate this issue.
I cannot provide you with any further information at this moment.”
The report says three children have been identified,
the other two are still under investigation.
But up to now, authorities have not provided a reasonable
explanation as to why these children are homeless, or what had happened to them.
Mr. Cheng from Shanxi Province revealed to NTD that each
year as many as 200,000 Chinese children get lost.
In order to find his own child, Mr. Cheng traveled
all over the country for many years.
His personal experience shows that authorities pay no attention
to children, which leaves him frustrated and very dissatisfied.
Mr. Cheng, father of a missing child in Shanxi Province:
“Since my child was lost, I have been looking for him for about 7-8 years.
We have traveled all over China and where ever we go, the
local police place us in house arrest or to control our personal freedom.
I am extremely dissatisfied with the social reality of China.”
Hu Jun, founder of Human Rights Movement organization,
said, this tragedy once again highlights CCP’s contempt for human life.
Authorities can spend enormous sums of money for
people like Prince Sihanouk of Cambodia,
but does not seem to care for its own children.
Hu Jun, founder of Human Rights Movement organization:
“This is the so-called “rise of Communist China”, or “CCP’s brilliance.”
A government, a political party, claims to lead China
to prosperity while it leads its children to their death out in the cold.
What kind of legacy & prosperity are they leaving
behind themselves?”
Netizen Wang Shichuan commented on Internet forums, “The
death of the street children is the shame of a prosperous society."
He wrote: “My child, I am sorry! Your death results from
dereliction of the adults. You did not die by accident, but by indifference.”
He said: “This tragedy reminds government departments that
some of our children live a life more worse than “The Little Match Girl.”
