Next Media’s Taiwan Exit Raises Free Press Concerns

There are fears that Taiwan’s media may become less robust, after a Hong Kong-based China critic announced he will sell his press holdings in Taiwan.
许多人担忧台湾媒体可能变得弱势,总部在香港的媒体人黎智英,对中国持的批评的态度,宣布他将卖掉在台湾的股份。
Hong Kong media mogul Jimmy Lai owns Next Media, which is critical of China’s communist authorities. Next Media is known for its animated takes on political and celebrity scandals. It publishes Apple Daily newspaper, Next Magazine in Taiwan and runs an internet TV station.
拥有“壹媒体”的香港媒体大亨黎智英,对中国共党当局是批判的。壹媒体以动画方式,针对报导政治及名人丑闻而闻名。在台湾发行苹果日报、壹周刊,并经营一家网路电视台。
Lai has tried, unsuccessfully, to expand its broadcasting operations in Taiwan, which has been pursuing closer ties with the mainland under the presidency of Ma Ying-jeou.
黎智英试着在台湾扩张媒体营运但没有成功,台湾在马英九总统任内一直追求与大陆更密切的闗系。
Lai will now sell its Taiwan media outlets to local business man Jeffrey Koo for around $600 million. Koo’s family has several business interests in the mainland.
黎智英现在以大约6亿美金,出售壹传媒给国内商人辜仲谅,辜家在大陆有好几项商业利益。
Next Media’s exit from Taiwan comes amidst growing concerns that local media is losing independency, and withholding criticisms of the Chinese regime in exchange for gaining access to the Chinese market.
壹传媒从台湾出走,是在在国内媒体逐渐失去独立性的顾忌的氛围下,以及自我克制对中国政权的批评,以交换得以进入中国市场。
