Netizens Help Beauty ‘General Return to the Army’
A recent incident with Ren Jie claiming to be a PLA’s
(People’s Liberation Army) Special Forces commander, created a wave on the Internet.
The incident is known as ‘Second Artillery Female Soldier
Liu Yuanyuan’s beauty has shocked the Party.’
China’s military claims that there is not such a person
in the military and that investigation is underway.
Netizens then started widely searching and found
a variety of evidences to help ‘return her to the army.’
A 27-year-old so-called ‘General’ claimed to have
a deputy division-level rank in the army.
She become popular on the Internet,
Especially after posting her uniform and sexy photos.
Many high officers in the military were involved
in her microblog.
Her microblog certification information states: ‘Ren Jie,
Senior PLA commander, 2011 National Women Award for PLA Special Forces commander.’
The CCP (China’s Communist Party) military,
and the official media claim this Ren Jie is a ‘fake soldier.’
They said, her identity and profile are fictitious,
and relevant departments are investigating the issue; later, this microblog was closed.
However, netizens probed for her name in the list of the
‘2011 National Women Award’ in ‘China’s Military Net.’
They found that Ren Jie
is one of the 100 advanced individuals on the list.
On October 16th, CCP’s mouthpiece People’s Daily quoted
military authority, saying ‘This Ren Jie is not the same as the one on the list.’
After this strong officials’ denial, netizens started to search
for information on this ‘General.’
They found her work certificate to show Ren Jie was born
in 1985, has a doctorate degree,
is a PLA Special Forces commander,
and a PLA Headquarters General Staff manager.
At the same time, netizens also found a report about Ren Jie,
showing the same profile and pictures as those online.
Netizens also made a ‘long blog’ in response to
Ren Jie’s removed blog.
There she wrote, ‘6th Division commander is my classmate,
I can always meet with the Beiwei commander,’
‘I am the adopted daughter
of Vice Commander Li Shaojun.’
Tang Jingling, a mainland lawyer, pointed out that based
on the netizens information Ren Jie’s identity is real.
Tang Jingling: ‘According to what she said on her blog,
the 27-year-old colonel’s case may involve corruption of many high-ranking officers in the military.
She also claims she comes from a third generation military
family. Her godfather is a high officer in the military.
Her family is also from top CCP echelons, so there must be
some serious corruptions involved so she can become high ranking officer at such a young age.’
This ‘General’ incident reminded the netizens of a previous
‘Second Artillery Female Soldier, who like Liu Yuanyuan, was said that her ‘Beauty shocked the CCP.’
Official media said that the incident ‘is under investigation
according to the Law,’ but there is no further information.
And Liu Yuanyuan’s identity, uniform photos, certification,
and drunk driving have all become a mystery.
Zhu Xinxin, former editor of Hebei People’s Radio Station,
said the authorities are trying to conceal such army scandals.
Nevertheless, in recent years,
these scandals are being exposed more and more.
Zhu Xinxin: “Many celebrities have joined the army,
which in fact was for selecting lovers for the officers.
No matter if this Ren Jie exists or not, we can see
people’s detestation toward this PLA corruption.
In the army everything is relatively lower key,
unlike the corrupt officials in the society, which means the corruption in the army is more serious.”
Tang Jingling pointed out that on one hand
the authorities claim to pursue legal responsibility,
yet on the other they try to conceal her true identity,
which draws people’s attention to such cases even more.
