If U.S. Gives China Visa-Free Status, Would it be a Disaster?
Recently, the U.S. government announced that
Taiwanese will soon enjoy visa-free travel to the U.S.;
much to the envy of those in Mainland China.
He Liangliang is deputy director of the editorial department
of Phoenix TV—the Chinese Communist Party(CCP)’s mouthpiece media in Hong Kong.
He says, if mainland China were to obtain visa-free status
from the U.S., the consequences will be disastrous.
Let’s see the opinions from those in different fields
in mainland China.
After news emerged that Taiwanese will enjoy visa-free
travel to the U.S. in future, many netizens in Mainland China
expressed their opinions, saying the Taiwan passport was
very strong and that they were very envious.
Others joked that to go to visa-free counties in Hong Kong
and Taiwan is ‘travel’, but to go to visa-free counties in Mainland China is a ‘complete adventure’!
More netizens asked why there was such a big difference
between Taiwanese and Mainland Chinese when it comes to getting a visa for entering the U.S.
October 3, on ‘News Talk Today’ by Phoenix TV—CCP media
in Hong Kong— editorial deputy director, He Liangliang, said
the U.S. added Taiwan into its Visa Waiver Program while
considering the political factor.
He says if the U.S. were to offer the same to Mainland China
it will be disastrous.
He Liangliang says, if the U.S. would offer visa-free status to
Mainland China now, there will be much illegal immigration.
Many Chinese including corrupt officials may stay in the U.S.
after they arrive and some may choose to give birth there.
Is this really the case?
A Fujian netizen told NTD his aspirations:
Reporter: “If you don’t need a visa to go to the U.S.,
will you go there now?”
Fujian netizen: “Of course. Everybody would like to go there;
all Chinese want to leave China.”
Reporter: “Why?"
Fujian netizen: “There are no human rights in China;
you can see that rich Chinese have left and gone to the U.S.
and the poor use smuggling or other ways to go to the U.S..
China’s almost a prison—not a country, it’s already a prison;
everybody wants to go to the U.S. because there is no
human rights in this country.”
Some netizens questioned, “In 1949 the CCP occupied China
and set up the so-called ‘New China’.
Why is it that no matter whether people have money or not,
everybody wants to leave?”
Some netizens made a joke that if the U.S. would offer
visa-free status to Mainland China,
the country will not have any ordinary citizens left,
only the officials will stay in China.
Fujian netizen: “If the U.S. offered China visa-free status,
I think not only Chinese citizens,
but CCP officials would also leave China; only CCP
committee members and senior leaders would stay in China.
They would have to make food for themselves as nobody
will be their slave; at that time, they will harm each other.
If all people left China, who can the CCP committee use?
Who can they grab? Who can they take advantage of?”
Yet, founder of “Global Information Freedom Movement",
Zhang Xinyu, disagrees with He Liangliang’s assumption of it
being “disastrous” because, Zhang says, the CCP regime will
try its best to control and limit Chinese people’s traveling.
Zhang Xinyu: “The Chinese regime is different from
American and Canadian governments who only control entry into the country.
China controls entering and exiting—China has two controls,
so such an immigration disaster will not happen.”
Zhang Xinyu says Taiwan got U.S. visa-free status because
its international status is much higher than Mainland China.
The international society have recognized Taiwan’s whole
societal development, their degree of openness and the profile of Taiwanese.
Zhang Xinyu: “Taiwan has visa-free status in more countries;
their citizens have a higher reputation and status overseas.
That’s also the reason why the visa-free status is different
between Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.
It also shows their citizens’ international status—if a country
has international reputation, its citizens will have status.”
Some netizens mocked that, it seemed the CCP leaders can
go anywhere worldwide, but ordinary Chinese cannot;
whereas Taiwan leaders cannot leave, but its people can go
anywhere.
A U.S. State Department senior official said on October 2, the
U.S. didn’t talk with China on giving Taiwan visa-free status.
Hong Kong’s Oriental Daily published an article mocking the
CCP, saying the U.S. intended to intentionally shame the CCP
—“Because it’s the CCP who has the diplomatic relationship
with the U.S., but Taiwan doesn’t”, the article said.
