Sun Jinfang Criticizes Li Na’s Lack of Proper Education
Chinese professional tennis player Li Na has experienced ups
and downs in her career after winning the French Open in 2011.
On the 2nd, Sun Jinfang, director of the Tennis Administrative
Center of the State Sports General Administration of China,
said in a TV interview, that Li Na lacks a quality mind
and tends to collapse at critical times.
It is all because of lack of good education.
Sun Jinfang’s remarks caused uproar on the Internet.
It is said that this is not an individual issue.
In the Chinese sports community, 90% of athletes lack proper education.
September 2, in a TV interview, Sun Jinfang commented
that Li Na often collapses and is very emotional.
The reason, according to Sun, is that Li has not had
a good education since childhood.
Without proper psychological development,
Li Na is not capable of escaping unwanted circumstances.
Sun Jinfang added, “It is like buying a good computer without
suitable software. This computer won’t function well."
Sun Jinfang’s remarks caused uproar on the Internet.
Netizens believed Sun Jinfang was insinuating that
Li Na is uncultured, and condemned her remarks.
Former Chinese professional basketball player, now coach
in Canada, Ju Bin, indicates that what Sun Jinfang said is true.
However, this is not Li Na’s personal problem.
In the Chinese sports field, 90% of the athletes lack cultural education.
Former Chinese professional basketball player and Canadian
basketball coach, Ju Bin: “Chinese sports require professionalism in the early ages.
Many teenagers who play professionally lose
(the opportunity for) proper education. In order to win gold, all else is insignificant.
They don’t care about the culture or education themselves,
nor does the family care, as well as the authorities."
Ju Bin indicates that Li Na is different from many other athletes.
She really loves tennis. She sacrificed a lot for her tennis career.
Ju Bin: “The majority of Chinese athletes do not necessarily
love their careers,
but they are determined to win the gold medal
for the benefits, the money, and the status.
That’s what they really play hard for."
On the 4th, an alleged post by Li Na denouncing Sun Jinfang
was spotted on the Internet.
In the post it stated, “What is collapse? If my failure is a collapse, what should Liu Xiang’s fall be called?
Did the General Administration of China Sports
not know in advance?
Why has Li Yongbo’s team not apologized for
throwing a game?”
The post also stated, “I have been in sports circles for
so many years, I have witnessed too much ugliness… these athletes,
in the eyes of the coach and the leaders,
are just their tool for profit and promotion.
Former Chinese national basketball team player Chen Kai
also points out that under the “Gold Medalism" of the CCP system;
Chinese athletes are just a group of slaves and tools
to whitewash Chinese Communists.
Former Chinese national basketball team player,
Chen Kai: “In an environment devoid of individual culture,
it is hard for the athletes to develop the proper mentality,
culture and education.
Only with strong desire, courage, and the ability to think
independently,
will they be able to free themselves from the system and
culture of despotism.
Everyone, including the athletes, and all Chinese are the tools
of the communist regime.
The CCP government acts as your master and infringes
on your interests whenever they please."
Li Na’s post, which refuted the sports system in China,
won public applause.
However, the post was not released as a statement
on Li Na’s official website,
and no official response has been seen yet from Li Na,
thus it cannot be confirmed whether it indeed was her comment.
