US Annual Report: China’s Human Rights Situation Worse
On May 24th , the U.S. State Department released the 2011
Human Rights Report.
The Report criticized countries’ human rights records,
including China, Korea, Vietnam and Iran.
142 pages of the report covered China’s human rights which
showed the situation continued to deteriorate.
However, the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) mouthpiece
People’s Daily rejected the U.S. criticism.
It claimed that the U.S. totally discredited China’s human
rights, interfering China’s internal affairs.
Analysts point out the CCP has always chanted “against
interfering in China’s internal affairs”.
Instead the CCP takes “one party’s dictatorship” for granted.
The U.S. State Department released the 2011 Human Rights
Report.
Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State addressed a press
conference.
She said the uprising in the Middle East and positive changes in
Burma, shows us that “people were demanding their universal human rights.”
The China’s human rights section of the report was 142 pages.
It said China was a paramount authority;
the country’s human rights situation has deteriorated,
particularly for freedom of speech and freedom to assemble.
As it does every year, the CCP retaliated to the US’s criticism.
They claimed the U.S. disregarded improvement of human
rights conditions in China.
They also said the China related content
in the report was filled with prejudice.
The CCP believed the description of human rights in China
was completely wrong.
Hu Jun, Director of Human Rights Campaign in China:
“China said the U.S.’s human rights report is prejudiced.
I don’t know if Chen Guangcheng wears glasses,
even a blind person can see the CCP’s evil nature.
How can you say the law exists in China?
That’s what China’s spokesman told the world.
Please don’t take the law as an excuse, he told the world,
there is no law in China, only power.”
NTD reporter called China and interviewed some Chinese
Citizens. Some of them are in Beijing to petition.
Yu Zhengqing, Shanghai petitioner: “First of all, we are very
grateful to the international society and U.S.’s assessment of China’s human rights situation.
Chinese people’s daily life is exactly
as the report has described.
The real life is even worse than what the report has said.
I am in Beijing now to petition about it.
Petitioners include Shanghai citizens,
these days everyone gathers in Beijing.
We have the same purpose; hoping the Chinese regime will
change human rights conditions, they can’t ignore people’s hard life anymore.”
Mr. Wang, Shanghai petitioner: “Propaganda in China is
completely different to what the CCP does.
Now the propaganda said everything was brilliant,
better than ever before.
In fact, repression towards petitioners is intensified worse
than ever before.”
Liu Ping, Independent candidate: “Being a law-abiding citizen,
my human rights situation is worse.
I frequently have been detained and beaten without any legal
reason.
If as the CCP said, the human rights situation has changed, if
you take me as an example, it has changed to a negative trend.
I don’t understand where the improvement has manifested?
At least, it hasn’t reflected on me, a law-abided citizen.”
The report stated the Chinese regime was reportedly
committed crimes of cruelty and murder.
Also CCP detained activists, including lawyer Gao Zhisheng
without informing the public.
“In China it is just like this.
If you are care about peoples’ suffering, are concerned
human rights, then you walk on a path of “crime”. Many lawyers are repressed one by one.
For example, Gao Zhisheng was concerned about Falun Gong
practitioners who had been persecuted.
Now he has been jailed. What crime did he commit? For
being concerned about human rights he was sent to jail. Is this the CCP’s human rights?”
In the U.S.’s human rights annual report, China is listed
amongst the “extremely bad” countries.
