Chen Guangcheng’s Study Trip to the U.S. Uncertain
When will activist Chen Guangcheng come to study in the U.S.
with his family after drawing the world’s attention?
Chen told NTD TV that after a week went by, the central
authorities didn’t send officials to visit him about it.
He still didn’t know what the result was about passports.
On May 9th, Chen’s nephew Chen Kegui was arrested by the
Shandong police for the “crime of intentional homicide.”
One of Chen Kegui’s lawyers, Liu Weiguo in Shandong was
not allowed to take over the case, and his freedom was limited.
Chen Kegui’s other lawyer, Chen Wuquan had his license
taken away by authorities.
So Chen Guangcheng said that the authorities continued to
monitor him behind the scenes.
Chen requested that authorities investigate those who were
responsible for the persecution towards him and his family, including his nephew’s family.
Riot Police Storm Village in Fujian
On May 14th , violence over land disputes took place in
mainland China.
Local officials allegedly sent 800 riot police to storm a village
in Xianyou county of Fujian province when villagers protested against the government’s land appropriations.
One person died and more than 40 were seriously injured.
Human Rights Defenders reported that a deputy director of
Xianyou county police station gathered 800 troublemakers, wearing uniform, holding shields and sticks.
This included 50 policemen and, led by Yang Hanjin, a party
secretary of Gaiwei town, drove into Dongjinggong village.
The report quoted a villager who said that rioters attacked
villagers indiscriminately including women and the elderly.
Many houses were damaged or destroyed. A passing by
motorcycle rider riding through the village was beaten up by rioters.
He was sent to hospital and died of his injuries.
Over 40 villagers were wounded.
Villagers revealed that local government appropriated 200 mu
(33 acres) of land in Dongjinggong village.
The authorities then sold the villagers’ land to developers for
a profit.
Last October, developers driving trucks led 200 people, as well
as village cadres and police and entered the village damaging the field and trees.
Villagers fought back and both sides battled it out, making the
developer’s land project fail.
Then villagers appealed making local government worried they
would be found out and started to take revenge to silence them.
—– People’s Daily’s Exceedingly Rare Talk of “Political Reform" ——
On May 14th the CCP’s official media People’s Daily wrote
an exceedingly rare whole page touting “political reform".
Back in April 2011, the People’s Daily issued an article by the
Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
It claimed to “resolutely safeguard the CCP’s political
Discipline”.
The report continued “It is inadmissible to criticize or persist in
one’s own way on major political issues involving basic theory, line, programme, and experience.”
This news report was deemed to be directed at Wen Jiabao.
In October 2010, the People’s Daily published another article
of covert criticism towards the CCP Premier Wen Jiabao.
It accused Wen of “deviating from the correct political
Direction” with “flashy, empty slogans”.
Wen was recently rumored to have contend with Zhou Yong-
kang at the CCP’s enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau.
When Zhou was reported to be put under investigation, the
People’s Daily’s “political reform” article echoed Wen Jiabao.
The Epoch Times released an article, titled ”Wen Jiabao
defeated Zhou Yongkang”.
The article covers that this proves Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao
have reached a consensus on the issue of “political reform”.
Moreover, Hu supports Wen to implement the “political
Reform”, according to the Epoch Times.
Reportedly, Hu Jintao made his ultimate decision at a meeting
to investigate Zhou Yongkang.
Hu Jintao even added that the probe should be conducted
following the “impartial but “covert” principle.
All attendees are aware that Hu&Wen deal with Zhou Yong-
kang in the style of “Warm water stew frogs slowly”.
Washington-based expert on China issues Shi Zangshan said,
“The People’s Daily’s full-page article,
for the first time clearly indicates Hu Jintao supports
Wen Jiabao to start the ‘political reform.’”
