Chen Guangcheng: Punish Officials Involved in Persecution
Blind activist Chen Guangcheng is still being treated
in Beijing’s Chaoyang Hospital.
Security guards are still surrounding the hospital, and no one
is allowed to see him, including U.S. officials.
Chen Guangcheng told media that at present, the world
is concerned about him, but his relatives are still being threatened.
He requested the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) punish
officials who illegally detained and persecuted him over the years.
On May 8, Reuters reported that Chen spoke to CCP officials
who came to visit him and raised special requests to them.
Chen said that CCP must carry out investigations of Shandong.
No matter who and how high the official, no matter how
many people are implicated, they must all be dealt with strictly according to the law.
According to the report, Chen said the government officials
had promised to take up investigation of his accusations.
However, Chen said that though they made that promise,
there hadn’t been any concrete action yet.
Chen told Reuters he would continue his rights defense.
Chen said, “At least continuing rights defense would be very
natural, like when someone hits you, don’t you flinch?”
Chen believes defending rights is also a basic,
natural response.
Chen added he would keep demanding that the CCP
investigate the illegal persecution by officials in Shandong.
