Foreign Media: Majority of Chinese Criticize Mao
Although Premier Wen Jiaobao, in a CCP meeting, warned
that the Cultural Revolution could happen again, the leftist forces are still very active.
Recently, Mao Zedong Institute is giving classes and lectures
about Cultural Revolution’s basic ideology, to “fight selfishness, denounce revisionism.”
Mao Zedong Institute’s first lecture series
is on “Marxism-Leninism-Maoism theory.”
On March 23, at the school opening ceremony in Beijing,
the dean stated, “remember the Cultural Revolution’s
basic theory: ‘fight selfishness, denounce revisionism.’”
Reports said that in the meeting, people also sang “red songs.”
Beijing constitutional scholar, Chen Yongmiao, said that
in China, the existence of corrupt officials and uneven distribution of wealth,
has amounted to the masses dissatisfaction with
the current affairs and reforms.
Some young people haven’t experienced Mao’s era,
and in comparing the Cultural Revolution with reforms, beautified the Cultural Revolution and Mao.
Chen Yongmiao, “Commemorating Mao and the Cultural
Revolution does not mean they really want to go back to that era.
If you ask them if they want to return to that era, their answer
is ‘absolutely not.’
This phenomenon reflects one problem, most civilians
are dissatisfied with current reforms.”
Chen said that today, talking about the so-called Cultural
Revolution problem or commemorating the Cultural Revolution,
shows the problem of reform itself.
It is reform that encounters huge disasters.
Xue Wei, manager of China Spring magazine, has been jailed
for ten years for the crime of being “anti revolutionary”.
He said that nowadays in China, only a few young people
use Mao to go against Hu Jintao or Jiang Zemin.
In fact, they don’t know much about Mao.
In world history, Mao has been classified as a tyrant.
Xue Wei, “As you know, the CCP admits Mao made many
mistakes, but they dare not completely deny him.
Mao set up the CCP, he is CCP’s founder.
So the CCP can’t completely overthrow their master,
they are in a very paradoxical situation.”
The Voice of America launched an online survey asking,
“Recently, Wen Jiabao denied the Cultural Revolution again.
However, Mao has claimed the Cultural Revolution was one
of two major accomplishments in his life. How do you assess Mao?”
Among over 10,000 participants, 81% were against Mao
and the Cultural Revolution.
Xue Wei, “Abandon Mao, actually the beginnings of CCP
abandonment is underway, although the CCP wants to use Mao to prolong its life.
One day, the CCP will shift all the crimes to Mao to protect
itself.
However, the public won’t be fooled; people will understand
where the CCP came from and how it started.
So denying Mao means denying the CCP, they link
to each other.”
Economist Mao Yushi said that “the Cultural Revolution
ruined people’s minds.”
On March 29, Hu Deping, the former CCP party secretary
Hu Yaobang’s son, commented on Wen Jiaobao’s opening speech.
Hu Deping said that we should keep the bottom line of
“The Resolution on historic problems of the CCP since the founding of China.”
Absolutely don’t be shaken, the bottom line is to hold
a criticical attitude towards the Cultural Revolution and to deny it.
