Guangzhou Youth Calling for Political Reform in the Street
To declare official’s property has become people’s willed
of mainland China.
In the street of Guangzhou, a few young people hold signs
wording “Hu Jintao, Declare your property”, attracted hundreds of people’s watching.
Scholars pointed out that the CCP’s officials were corrupt,
many young people born in 80s and 90s were also concerned social issues.
However, it is coincidence while Hu Jintao is visiting abroad,
Zhou Yongkang and Li Changchun took the chance to block the internet and arresting people.
Young people who hold signs to question Hu was posted
on internet, haven’t been stopped by the police, arousing public’s suspicious.
Guangzhou netizens led by democracy activists Ar Gui and
Xiao Juan demonstrated with signs on Longdong Street,
questioning the reality of the political reform proposed by
Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao.
They request Hu Jintao to take the lead to declare his property.
Hundreds of people surrounded and watched.
Ar Gui told NTD, to take the street for fairness and justice.
Xiao Juan expressed that they wrote “Fairness, Justice,
Freedom, Democracy, Rule by Law and Human Rights” etc.
on the back of the signs, hoping China has true
human rights and freedom of speech.
Guangzhou democracy activists Xiao Juan:
“I think declaring personal assets is secondary.
The key item is reforming the current system of the
Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
It is sad to see so many self-immolations, suicide incidents.
People were forced to do so. It is not their problem.
These are caused by the system of our country.”
Xiao Juan mentioned that participants are mostly single
young people born in the 80’s or 90’s.
It is dangerous to demonstrate on the streets,
as they might get arrested.
But Ar Gui pointed out that when large amount of people
got on the street, they will not only hold signs.
One of the initiators to ask officials to declare property is
lawyer Tang Jingling.
He pointed out that the most important step against corruption
is to have senior officials declare assets.
CCP official are corrupt.
There are wide gaps between the rich and the poor.
Abuse to justice happens a lot.
Numerous victims have nowhere to appeal for justice.
Even those born in the 80’s and 90’s who do not care about
politics must consider these social problems.
Lawyer Tang Jiling: “Due to the strengthening of dictatorship,
liquidity between social classes decline.
Children from poor families barely have any hope.
The reality forces him to think about social problems.
They can see variety of information on the internet.
Many young people are more and more concerned of politics.
In addition, outsiders noticed that young people who hold
signs questioned “political reform”, haven’t been dismissed,
instead, their photos were posted on the internet.
Meanwhile, media in Hong Kang and Taiwan also
published this news.
These unusual behaviors provoke public’s speculation.
On March 30, the internet suddenly were cleaning-up,
Beijing police confirmed that 1,065 suspects were arrested for involving in spreading rumors.
70 internet service companies like Sina were fined.
Sina and Tencent microblog websites’ forum had been
ceased operation for 3 days.
16 related websites which were considered spreading
rumors were closed.
Li Tianxiao, Ph.D. in political science at Columbia University
said that upon Hu’s visiting abroad, Zhou Yongkang took the
chance to counter-attacking, approving of the internet control.
The CCP Propaganda chief Li Changchun echoed Zhou to
make arrangement.
Strangely, Guangzhou young people’s behaviors
slipped out of the net.
Before this year’s “two sessions” (CCP’s internal meeting),
100 citizens spontaneously requested the civil staff to declare their property.
In addition, the nine Standing Committees members and
Xi Jinping should be the lead,
in order to show their clean accounts and their determination
of anti-corruption.
However, citizens who made the suggestion had been silenced,
many supporters and those who signed the petitions are warned
by the national security personnel.
