Xi Jinping’s Visit to the US Draws Protests

Xi Jinpin, the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP)
vice chairman’s visit to the U.S. met with a few protests.
The world condemns CCP’s human rights abuses, however,
in the White House meeting with Barack Obama and Joe Biden,
Xi tried to defend the CCP’s 30+ years past record on human
rights. Xi’s reaction disappointed mainlanders.
Some people understand that China’s human rights will not
improve as long as the CCP is ruling the country.

On the 14th Feb., Xi Jinping began his official visit to the US.

On the same day, President Obama and Vice President Biden
held meetings with Xi Jinping in the White House.
They discussed human rights and trade issues.

During the meeting, the US clearly stated, the CCP must improve
its human rights record and change the activists’ situation.
Obama urged China to balance the trade flow, he also vowed to
keep pressing the CCP to clean up its human rights record.

However, at a State Department lunch, Xi said the CCP has
made much progress on human rights over the past 30 years.

The US Congressman Frank Wolf said, talks with the CCP
using “quiet diplomacy” have not yielded results.

China activist Lai Jinbiao said, the CCP has jailed many
political prisoners; the public has no freedom of speech;
the central propaganda department controls publication.
Human rights in China have not made any progress.

Lai Jinbiao, “In fact, we don’t hold any hope in the CCP.

No matter which year, no matter which successor, we will
never forget that they belong to the CCP family.”

Mr. Ding from Wuxi in Jiangxi, pointed out that now in China,
there is no way to have human rights and freedom.

Ding, “People in China have no human rights.

The local authorities implement the law, bullying civilians,
officials put their rights above the law.”

Last Dec.16, the human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng was sent
back to prison a week before his probation had expired.
The CCP mouthpiece, Xinhua News Agency announced on an
overseas’ English website, the removal of Gao’s probation and his transfer to court.
Afterwards Gao was sent to Shaya jail in Xinjiang.
However, Gao’s family hasn’t been informed.

During Xi Jinping’s visit to the White House, Christopher Smith,
the Chairman of Congressional Executive Commission on China
and Senator Sherrod Brown chaired a meeting in the congressman’s
office regarding the human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng.
Gao’s wife, Geng He, and other activists attended the
meeting as witnesses.

Listening to Geng He’s speech about Gao’s suffering of brutal
torture, and their family’s hardship, Sherrod Brown said that
the problem Gao has faced, is the result of disregard of the
law by the CCP regime.

Sherrod Brown, “Gao’s case in the cases he works on show us
how easy it is for Chinese officials to cheat, to bend the laws, to play games with the system.”

Sherrod Brown said, the Obama government is making friends
with murderers, he hopes the US government shall not be weak on human rights issues.

Meanwhile Reporters without Borders (RWB) urges to show
concern in Chinese netizens’ rights on freedom of speech.
RWB made a list of the problems that Chinese netizens are
faced with, releasing it to international media.
RWB also passed this list to Chinese delegations
visiting the US.

On the morning of Feb.14, Falun Gong practitioners protested
to Xi in front of the White House, State Department and outside the hotel where Xi stayed.
They urged Xi to investigate the CCP officials who persecute
Falun Gong practitioners, calling for an end to the persecution, and bringing Jiang Zemin to justice.

The human rights groups also hope Obama would make
suggestions to Xi on China’s human rights issues.

Yang Jianli, founder of the Initiatives for China in US, and
Hu Ping, Chief Editor of Beijing Spring magazine published an open letter to Obama, stating,
“China’s human rights issue is not only China’s problem,
it becomes the concern of the whole world.
