CCP Secretary Asks Media to Report More Positive News

Wang Yang, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Guangdong
provincial secretary,
accused the media of reporting too many dark pieces of news
about society, and asked media to report more good deeds in a meeting recently.
The public questions the regime’s intent to use the media to
window-dress the society, and suppress freedom of speech.

Wang Yang asked the media to report more good deeds,
to advocate the moral model,
and said, ”a good child is due to praise, and
a good society is from compliment.”

Ms. Mak Yin-ting, Hong Kong special correspondent of
“France International Radio” and
former president of Hong Kong Correspondent Association,
said that news is reporting the truth.
What Wang Yang said is fundamentally violating the concept of
press freedom.

Mak Yin-ting: “Press freedom is reflecting what happened in society.
If there are problems, media should report it fairly.
Can’t only report the positive news,
neither only negative news.
Otherwise, the social matters can’t be improved, the civil
grievances can’t be compliant, and it’s not good for a society’s development.”

In the same meeting, Wang Yang criticized some media
for using adventure and sensory stimuli to attract attention,
which led to murder, violence, cheating, fraud and suicides
happening more frequently in Guangdong province.

In Oct., Guangdong Foshan toddler Yueyue was run over
by 2 vans in the street, and the 18 passers-by didn’t do anything to help.
Global Media bombarded society with reports of
this piece of news.
In Nov., a passer-by stopped a car in Wuhan, which knocked a
doctorate student down and dragged her for 10 meters.

Ms. Mak Yin-ting said media reports on the social dark side
influences the public to think about what is good, then improve the social moral environment.

Mak Yin-ting: “People will think over and improve themselves
after it’s been reported.
Then the society will go forward in the right direction
step by step.
If we hide the issues, then the issue will accumulate to a point
that people can’t stand.
Suddenly, there will be a breakout which will have a
bigger impact on and hurt the society deeply.”

Ms. Li Nan, a famous Chinese poet, said that the media is a
mouthpiece of CCP in China, and their reporting is based on CCP’s needs.

Li Nan: “It fools people, fools the civil folks.

Definitely, it reports everything in a positive way, because
livelihood isn’t its priority, human rights aren’t its priority.
It doesn’t think based on human being’s needs, it thinks based
on the interests of the party.”

Ms. Mak Yin-ting revealed that some Chinese officials tried
to restrict the press freedom in Hong Kong, but failed finally.

Mak Yin-ting: “In Hong Kong, Chinese officials had similar
words like Wang Yang, but the public and media opposed it immediately.
We said media is not a propaganda machine,
you yourself can say it, but you can’t order the media to say it.
But privately, they influenced some media to stand
in the regime’s shoes.”

Wang Yang said in the meeting that his 80-year-old mother
lives in Anhui province.
She knows Guangdong is in chaos.
She asked him to be more careful.
Wang Yang said it’s up to the media to let the out to the world
their feeling that Guangdong isn’t safe.

Local media reported that the police arrested nearly 100 people,
including 13 gang leaders, and seized 7 axes and knives in Foshan last Friday (Nov. 25th).
This gang’s members are from Sichuan, they had a gun fight
with another gang in October.
