Nearly 90% Of China’s Civilians identify with Democracy.
A recent survey released by Global Times, a tabloid
published under People’s Daily, mouthpiece media of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP),
shows that nearly 90% of civilians identify with the
idea of democracy.
Democracy activists say that democracy of CCP claimed
is fundamentally different from civilians’.
Civilians want the freedom, while the authorities only care
about the interests of the regime and for its stakeholders to not give up their enormous private gain,
China’s people would thus find it hard to obtain a
true democracy.
Global Times reported that the survey was conducted
in late November.
Participants are over the age of 18,
coming from the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou,
Changsha, Chengdu, Xi’an and Shenyang.
From a total 1,009 returned questionnaires, 87.2% of
respondents agree that “democracy is a good thing."
Founder of 64tianwang.com, Huang Qi, says that
official data indicates only that
the CCP has seen the dramatic changes in the
international situation and the rapid growth of China’s rights-defending movement.
Under immense pressure of the pursuit of democracy
by domestic and overseas communities,
the CCP authorities are simply answering this pressure
under current situation.
Huang Qi: “We don’t look at who has said something,
instead, we take note of what specific actions he has taken.
If a ruling party only announces the results of opinion polls
and the like,
not truly taking any action that is likely to
promote democracy,
I don’t think that will cover what is necessary for addressing
problems such as civilians’ anger and resentment.”
Recently, several members of Guizhou Human Rights
Seminar has been put under house arrest and contact with them has been lost.
Xu Guoqing, one of these members, told NTDTV that
on the eve of every World Human Rights Day on December 10,
they were taken away by CCP state security policemen
and detained for over one month.
State security policemen stay at the gate of Xu’s house
to monitor him.
Guizhou Human Rights Seminar was founded
on 2005 World Human Rights Day.
Over past the seven years, its members have been randomly
deprived of personal freedom on over one hundred occasions.
Huang Qi: “Their (the CCP regime) alleged democracy is
far different from the democracy in our minds,
as their democracy refers to the democratic dictatorship.
We have witnessed much more dictatorship in its ruling
than democracy.
The suppression that was suffered by civilians,
rights activists, Falun Gong practitioners or other dissidents, far exceeded its touted democracy. “
According to the recent reports on Minghui.org,
Gansu resident, Zhang Dengchun, aged over 70 years old,
was kidnapped and detained by the CCP authorities
for practicing Falun Gong.
Two months ago, when being returned back home,
Zhang suffered incontinence, inability to walk and was
afflicted with many other complaints and illness.
Incomplete statistics on Minghui.org show that the
CCP’s Gansu authorities illegally detained 2,480 Falun Gong practitioners,
among them, 107 people were persecuted to death.
He Depu(Aide of a deputy election candidate in China)says :
“Although the ruling party claims that the condition of
each country is different and there are difficulties in
achieving true democracy,
it still should give support to citizens’ appeals, instead of
suppressing them for their efforts in striving for democracy.
It’s cracking down only signifies that the CCP regime
runs counter to what it claims by mouth and on paper."
He Depu comments that the ruling party should identify with
democratic values, giving China’s civilians real democracy and freedom,
and allowing the people to own the freedom to strive for
their legal rights and interests.
