CCP Guarded Against Attendance at Zhao Ziyang’s Birthday Memorial

Monday (Oct. 17) was former CCP General Secretary
Zhao Ziyang’s 92nd birthday.
Zhao’s family held a memorial and
hoped CCP would allow people to attend.
Media reports of police revealed that there were about 120
policemen, soldiers and plainclothes officers closely monitoring Zhao’s home on Monday.

On Oct. 17th, a family memorial was held in Zhao’s home.
One human rights activist said that they kowtowed to Zhao’s photo, burned incense, and brought flowers.

(Human rights activist):” His family is very friendly. I burned some incense and chanted for Zhao.
His family gave us some souvenirs – a pomegranate, a small book, Zhao’s biography.
I went to his old residence in his hometown before. It isn’t like a leader’s home, it’s dilapidated.
It’s an old house that has 3 almost empty rooms, with a few paintings hung on wall. There’s an old loom. It’s a house made of mud.”

An observer told “Sound of Hope radio station, ”policemen and security filled the area around Zhao’s home on Monday.”

(Observer)” There are several plainclothes officers, very strong men. Policemen ride up and down on bike.
Several ladies over 60 years old wore red armbands and monitored the passersby. Even CCP is afraid of a dead person.”

All along, when it’s Zhao’s birthday or death anniversary, CCP authority is very nervous and blocks anybody from going to Zhao’s home.
As usual, CCP deployed troops, national security, and public security to set up a dedicated joint action team, and named a high level leader Commander on Oct. 17.

Cha Jianguo, a China Democracy Party member, has friends who tried to go to Zhao’s home but were stopped by police.
Cha said, Zhao’s performance during the Jun. 4th movement was reflected in his later years.
He represents a trend that’s closer to freedom, democracy, and universal values. These scare the CCP authority.

(Cha Jianguo)”CCP doesn’t want to engage in universal values and are against those values.
So, it doesn’t want any dissidents or democracy activists to come into contact with Zhao’s family, which will expand Zhao’s impact.”

It’s understood that the biggest concern of CCP authority is mass riots and foreign media’s reports.
Therefore, CCP’s monitoring focuses on petitioners, dissidents and foreign media.

Wang Fandi, husband of Tiananmen Mother Zhang Xianling:
“Fellow Chinese are missing him, civil folks are missing him, and CCP is afraid of him. It’s very strange and very ridiculous.
Even missing a person can make CCP scared, that’s how you know how fragile CCP is. The outside (world) is laughing at CCP because it’s too fragile.”

Zhao Ziyang, the former CCP General Secretary, was sympathetic towards students and against military repression during the Jun. 4th movement in 1989.
Then, he was dismissed from all of his positions, and was put under house arrest at 6 Fuqiang alley, West Dengshikou Street, Beijing until he died in 2005.

Yan Jiaqi, a social science scholar, was forced into exile in the U.S. just because he supported the Jun. 4th movement. He said 1989 was a turning point for China.

(Yan Jiaqi, social science scholar): ”If China had progressed along Zhao’s route, China would be very positive today.
But in 1989, CCP made the Jun. 4th massacre that changed China’s developing direction. From that time, China walked on a road toward death.”

Some foreign media analyzed that now is a critical time.
CCP has the 6th Plenum session of the 17th central committee, and has a leadership shift. That’s why it closely monitored Zhao’s birthday memorial.

(Yan Jiaqi, social science scholar): ”In fact, all the repression of human rights defenders, which includes the Democracy Party and Falun Gong, is a continuation of Jun. 4th massacre.
It’s a constant slaughter, constant repression to civilians, and I feel the current status is connected to Jun. 4th.”

Wang Yannan, Zhao’s daughter thinks history will return the justice to Zhao. Yan Jiaqi is also firmly believes, that day isn’t far, and China will change.
