“Revelation of Ai" Angers Public
Chinese human rights activist and artist Ai Weiwei
has been missing for half a month.
Chinese official media’s so-called “revelation of Ai"
has infuriated the public.
An editor of a newspaper blew the whistle
and revealed the inside story.
It is the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP)
usual trick to blacken the names of dissidents.
Global Times editor Richard Burger is a China expert.
In his blog, he exposed that the paper’s chief editor
Hu Xijin, held a closed-door meeting on April 4.
Promoting the CCP, he ordered to “expose" Ai.
Global Times later published articles on Ai’s
“economic crimes, bigamy, tax evasion,
distributing pornography, and his third-rate art."
CCP-backed Hong Kong media,
such as Ta Kung Pao and Wen Wei Po
also published similar articles.
Global Times’ article even linked Ai to politics,
claiming Ai was in support of the West.
Burger criticized, “This behavior told us
very clearly that on the issue of Ai, CCP
is determined to convey its position,
even if it violates journalistic ethics."
Richard Tsoi, VP of Hong Kong Alliance,
told Deutsche Welle, that CCP’s deeds violate laws.
Also, utilizing media to smear others
is the CCP’s consistent method. He felt very upset.
Ai’s sister, Gao Ge, said Ai was framed.
Gao: “This is speculation, where is the plaintiff?
Where is the defendant? It has not been confirmed,
yet they have started publicizing it.
Isn’t this ridiculous? Without a trial or a court
procedure…I think everyone is aware of the tricks."
Gao also said that she came to know more about Ai,
through this issue, and the whole family is proud
and honored by Ai’s just actions.
Beijing artists planned ‘A Actions: Weekend Basking’
including ‘walk in the sun’ in support of Ai.
Shortly after the news spread, the two initiators
were arrested and their whereabouts are unknown.
After Ai disappeared, family consulted Liu Xiaoyuan,
a Beijing-based human rights lawyer.
Liu lost contact with outside world on April 14.
Before going missing, he posted on his micro-blog
“Someone is following me."
Zhang Jian (‘89 Tiananmen Student Leader): “I want
to tell CCP, that dissidents, including Ai and
Gao Zhisheng, are deeply in love with their country.
CCP commits crimes across China. It really is crazy.
The international community is angered by CCP."
Hong Kong’s Ming Pao pointed out on April 15,
that people saw how CCP’s official mouthpieces
were smearing and “attacking the dignity" of Ai.
They felt uneasy about CCP’s public power shadow.
