Egyptian Revolution 2.0 Inspires the Chinese People to Take the First Step

Wael Ghonim, a leader in the Egyptian Revolution and manager of Google’s middle Eastern sales, was invited to speak in a famous talk show by TED.What revelation the revolution initiated from a website has brought to Chinese people? Let’s look at the report.

US based TED is a nonprofit organization having a talk show called “Ideas Worth Spreading”.

Global influencers frequently speak at the show.As an IT specialist, Ghonim spoke at TEDxCairo in jeans and sneakers, describing his own experiences
of the Egypt revolution.

“This is revolution 2.0. No one was a hero. No one was a hero, because everyone was a hero.”

Ghonim said Egypt for 30 years had been going downhill, and people were ilenced under tyranny.

Ghonim created a Facebook page to expose the cruelty and corruption of the Egyptian regime, which attracted thousands of followers in a few days.
He saw the power of Internet and social networks in inspiring and educating the public to pursue democracy and liberty.

“A dictator can not live without the force. They want to make people live in fear. And that psychological barrier of fear has worked for so many years. And here comes the Internet, technology, Blackberry, SMS…It’s helping all of us to connect.”

Ghonim’s efforts made it possible for Egyptians to share their dreams, anguish, and desire for liberty.

Information shared online by the people after the Tunisian revolution ncouraged the protest in Egypt on Jan. 15. Ghonim was arrested on Jan. 27 during protests, and was detained for 12 days. The day after his release, Ghonim saw incredible changes among Egyptians at the Tahrir Square.

“I never thought I could see so incredible Egyptians,Their fear no longer existed. Actually, it became Strength, and people were so empowered.
It was amazing how everyone was so empowered, asking for their rights. Completely opposite to the past.”

“We will win because we have no [secret] agenda, because we do not understand politics, its balancing acts, compromises and dirty tricks, because our tears come from our hearts and our dreams are legitimate,” said Mr. Ghonim on
the Facebook page. A week later, the Egyptian regime was overthrown by the people.

Human rights activist Tang Boqiao has been working toward bringing democracy to China since 1980’s. He has supported various anti-CCP movements in China over the past 20 years.

“Revolution 2.0 means that small steps taken by individuals will become a giant leap for the society.People shouldn’t worry that the opposition isn’t ready, because the revolution will succeed when people stand up for themselves. We cannot hope for an opposition party to defeat the CCP through political
power play. We don’t want dirty tricks.”

Tang believes the “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party” has helped the Chinese people to see the nature of the CCP, which is necessary in the
pursuit of democracy. Now, every Chinese needs to take that small step for himself, and for the nation.
