Hong Kong Fights Genuine Universal Suffrage
China approved on Sunday a plan for Hong Kong’s
2017 leadership election.
This plan sets up a three point gate for the election and breaks
any hope of a genuine universal suffrage.
Protests erupted in response to the plan.
Civil Disobedience in Hong Kong has created much resonance
around the world.
Apple Daily reported CCP betrayed the promise of universal
suffrage in Hong Kong with its article entitled,
“Dark sky after 30 years of hope."
Obviously, this is not something that Hong Kong
can keep quiet about.
August 31, under the dark sky, 5000 Hong Kong people
responded to the Occupy Central organizers to initiate
a series of peaceful disobedience action in Tamar Park.
Dr. Benny Tai Yiu-ting declared:
The city would officially enter an “era of civil disobedience".
Deputy Secretary General of the NPC Standing Committee
Li Fei arrived in Hong Kong on Sept. 1 to attend briefings on political reform.
In Li Fei’s talk, more than a dozen members of the
pan-democratic legislators, interrupted with waving signs saying,
“I want genuine universal suffrage", “central dishonesty",
" shameful screening."
With rumbling drums beating and lit cell phones, a strong protest
was formed, saying, “never kneel to power" provoking responses from overseas Chinese.
Citizen Power for China stated on Aug. 31 in Washington,
the Communist regime has once again demonstrated its perfidy,
and encouraged people to support the Occupy Central
with Love and Peace.
Citizen Power for China president Yang Jianli: “Our statement
is to pay solidarity to the Occupy Central movement.
We also explained in the statement, according to the situation,
we can mobilize the international community and citizens
in mainland China to join the solidarity of democracy
in Hong Kong."
1989 Student Movement leader Wang Dan also issued
a statement on the Aug. 31 expressing support for Occupy Central.
He stated that once the Communist regime starts the armed
repression, worldwide operation to promote Occupy
Central for Nobel Peace Prize will be launched.
After the anti-trade pact movement, the slogan, “Hong Kong
today, tomorrow Taiwan," has become popular in Taiwan.
The democracy movement in Hong Kong has also drawn
much attention in Taiwan.
China issue expert Dong Liwen indicates, CCP care not of
its perception in Taiwan or the international community,
nor take into account the voice of democratic reform
from mainlanders.
Associate Professor of Department of Public Security,
Central Police University, Taiwan, Dong Liwen:
“It does not care for any of them. All it cares about is the
stability of CCP regime.
Its killing of democracy in Hong Kong is unfavorable to its
diplomatic image or cross-strait relations.
It can not resolve the issue in Hong Kong."
Dr. Dong Liwen believes CCP’s act in Hong Kong is not only
a warning to Taiwan, but more of a shock.
Dong Liwen: “This comprehensive ban of Hong Kong’s
democratic parties is demonstrated in the military, the society
and media. Even the triads were involved.
The way of CCP’s doing, there is no way for the cross-strait
relation to improve. It will only further alienate Taiwan’s people."
Although Hong Kong’s situation has turned Taiwan people
away, the mainland constitutional scholar Chen Yongmiao
expressed his trace of “envy."
Chen Yongmiao: “Of course, we can’t do Occupy Central,
but only Occupy Vacancy for a while.
If we are to occupy Tiananmen Square or some political core
locations, we’ll be immediately suppressed.
The people can not gather on such a large scale."
Chen Yongmiao mocks in humor, there was Occupy
the Legislative Yuan in Taiwan, or Occupy Central in Hong Kong.
In China, human rights activists can only occupy vacant buildings
in “ghost towns" to support the Occupy Central.
