CCP Mouthpieces “Silent” On Gu Kailai As Her Reprieve Will Expire Soon

Gu Kailai, wife of former Chongqing party secretary Bo Xilai,
was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for murder..

As Gu’s reprieve will expire on Aug 20, the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP) mouthpieces have released a rarely
seen editorial on the issue.

The article makes comments on Gu’s role in Bo Xilai’s
case, and has drawn widespread media attention because of that.

On June 28, the Xinhua News Agency released an article
titled “Analysis of Frequently-seen Family Corruption Cases:
Combined Efforts Inside Family Make Things Easier”.

The article said most corruption cases of recently dismissed
officials have shown elements in common:

all relatives “benefit from” one family member who is
politically promoted, and the whole family is involved
if that person falls.

A complete chain of interest and corruption
has formed in that manner.

In particular, the article mentioned Bo Xilai’s case, saying
his falling is closely related to his wife and mistresses.

“Many officials become corrupt under the effect
of evil pillow talk.”

Zhao Yuanming, senior Chinese legal scholar:“When
an official falls into criminal acts, his wife usually plays
a role of accomplice.

Gu Kailai is a clear example of that in Bo Xilai’s case.

Many of Bo’s crimes, such as receiving bribes, embezzling
state-owned assets and selling organs, also
involve his wife Gu Kailai.”

Previously in the trial of Gu and Bo, the CCP had
intentionally denied any correlation between the their crimes.

As Gu’s reprieve is about to expire, the CCP mouthpiece
suddenly highlights Gu’s role in Bo Xilai’s case.
Such change in attitude has drawn widespread media attention.

Senior Chinese legal scholar Zhao Yuanming commented
that the Xinhua article could possibly imply
a retrial of Gu Kailai.

On the other hand, if Gu does not commit crimes during
her two-year reprieve, her sentence can be changed to
life imprisonment, Zhao said.

Zhao Yuanming:”If Gu does not commit any crimes during
the reprieve, or is not found to have committed any other
major crimes that have been concealed in the trial,

if neither of these two situations happens, then traditionally
there will be no retrial.

Nor will she be executed after the reprieve.
There are strict regulations in law about that.”

Zhao Yuanming believes that Gu’s case is
a clear reflection of “family corruption”
that is ubiquitous among CCP officials.

In February 2012, former Chongqing’s public security
director Wang Lijun defected to the U.S. Consulate.

The incident quickly led to an earthquake inside the party.

Washington Free Beacon revealed that among the materials
submitted by Wang to the U.S. Consulate included:

evidences of a coup plotted by Bo Xilai and Zhou Yongkang,
former secretary of Central Politics and Law Commission.

The coup aimed at deposing Xi Jinping
who came to power in the 18th CCP’s National Congress.

An Epoch Times article commented that Gu Kailai was
a core member of Bo and Zhou’s coup group.

To protect herself, Gu had revealed their coup plan,
but indeed she had worked as the overseas liaison in the plan.

By controlling the Public Security system through the CCP’s
Central Politics and Law Commission, Zhou Yongkang,
Bo Xilai, Gu Kailai and Wang Lijun

had been seeking exorbitant profits by selling organs
that are harvested from live humans.

Neil Heywood, an English businessman, was involved
and murdered as he was suspected of leaking secrets.

Wang Lijun, who knew well about all the crimes of
Bo and Gu, began to fear that he would be murdered
similarly as Heywood.

Therefore he fled to the U.S. Consulate for asylum.

Wang submitted evidences of Bo and Gu’s live organ
harvesting and coup plan to the United States.

This later led to Bo’s falling and exposure of
Gu’s murder of Heywood.

On August 20, 2012, Gu Kailai was sentenced to death with
a two-year reprieve for murdering in Hefei, Anhui province.

On October 25, 2013, the second trial of Bo Xilai affirmed
the original sentence of life imprisonment for receiving
bribery, embezzlement and abuse of power.

Liu Yinquan, Former Chinese Professor of History:“Gu Kailai
should be retried.
I think the truth of many homicide cases are still
not known by the public.
Bo and Gu should be retried and sentenced to death.
They not only murdered Heywood, but also many others.
If those cases are not exposed to the world,
the trial is not convincing and conclusive.”

On Aug 20, Gu Kailai’s reprieve will expire. However,
Gu’s crimes of live organ harvesting, illegal sales of human
corpse and plotting coup are still being concealed by the CCP.

The whole world’s media is paying close attention to
what will next happen to Gu Kailai.
