Chinese Consulate Arson Signals More Frightening Facts
A Chinese national, Feng Yanfeng turned himself in and admitted
setting the fire at the Chinese consulate in San Francisco on
New Year’s Day.
The strong protest from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
regarding the ineffective security along with urging aggressive
pursuit of charges against the suspect has been criticized.
The CCP lacks introspection on why its citizen would set
a fire at his own consulate gate.
Activists warn more serious incidents will happen.
The suspect Feng Yanfeng went through the second trial on
January 7 morning for the arson at the Chinese Consulate in
San Francisco. The entire trial lasted for only one minute.
The trial will continue on January15. The court will make its
verdict to continue detention or bail pending trial then.
The FBI said that Feng was charged with maliciously
damaging or attempting to damage a diplomatic building
by fire or explosive on the first trial on January 6.
If convicted, Feng may face a 20 year jail term.
The motive of Feng remains unknown after two trials.
The investigator indicated to look at this case as purely
criminal, not about terrorism, politics or human rights issues.
According to his statement to the police, Feng was driven
by “voices" he had been hearing.
Since the blaze took place on January 1, the CCP has issued
four strong protests urging the Untied States to solve the case
and punish the perpetrators.
They urge the U.S. to take effective measures to ensure the
safety of the Chinese consulate, to learn lessons from this
incident and prevent the recurrence of similar incidents.
The Chinese ambassador, Cui Tiankai, also criticized the
ineffective security of the United States according to
numerous large and small attacks to the Chinese consulate
in the past several years.
Many responded to the regime’s criticism: Why does a Chinese
citizen set fire to his own consulate?
Why such an incident only occur to the Chinese consulate?
Why doesn’t the regime look inward and learn how to treat
its citizens better?
Radio France Internationale reported that among many
consulates in San Francisco, the Chinese consulate is unique
for year long protests at its front door.
These are staged by activists in democracy, human rights,
Tibetans exiled, the Uyghurs, the Falun Gong practitioners,
the pro-Taiwan independence, environmentalists, animal rights,
and so forth. They range from a few to thousands of people.
The common practice of the Chinese consulate is to shut the
door and offer no response.
However, a violent approach was taken at times.
Ge Lifang, organizer of Persecuted Chinese Victims Alliance:
“They have behaved the same way as in China. They hit us.
They beat us with batons during our protest.
It is extremely appalling. They hit my bottom!
We could not defend ourselves because the two of us were
holding a big banner. They were very violent, and very brutal!"
After the arson, the CCP run media immediately targeted
the protestors outside the consulate, and even framed the
Tibetan separatist party.
Since the suspect’s identity was revealed, the Communist
media once again played the word game, instead of the
Chinese national, they focused on his identity as a
permanent resident of the United States.
Critics point out that the CCP should feel fortunate for the
sensible and persistent protestors outside the Chinese Consulate.
Particularly people with beliefs and insistent on no killing, and
the principles of kindness and tolerance.
Otherwise, anger could have burn the consulate to
ashes long ago.
Ge Lifang: “If they keep our issues unresolved, incidents more
serious than the arson will happen.
We are petitioners of old ages, and I am almost 60 years old.
If our problems remained unresolved, I surely will resort to
extreme measure. There is no other way."
Radio France Internationale reported that the embassies
represent its government, be it benevolent or evil.
