Ji Zhongxing Second Hearing Brings Discontent for Lawyer and Family
On November 29, Beijing Municipal No. 3 Intermediate
People’s Court announced a second ruling in the case
of the Beijing Capital International Airport bombing.
Ji Zhongxing’s appeal was denied by the court, and
the first ruling of a six-year prison term was upheld.
The court also claimed that the sentence on wheelchair
bound Ji Zhongxing will take place outside of jail.
Ji Zhongxing’s lawyer Liu Xiaoyuan commented
that the procedure in the second hearing was unjust.
In addition, Ji’s family were not happy with the
verdict, and said they would continue to appeal.
On July 20 this year, Ji Zhongxing distributed
petition flyers at Terminal 3 of Beijing airport.
After being stopped by airport police, Ji revealed a
home-made bomb, which later exploded in the dispute.
Ji was severely injured by the explosion
and another police officer was slightly injured.
Hu Jia Undertakes Street Hunger Strike to Voice Support
for Wang Bingzhang
On November 28, renowned Beijing human
rights activist Hu Jia initiated a “24-hour
street hunger and self-captivity movement".
This is to voice support for Wang Bingzhang,
a democrat who has been imprisoned for
11 years after being given a life sentence.
According to Radio Free China (RFA), Hu Jia
said after the hunger strike movement that he
could express gratitude to Wang Bingzhang on
that day, as it was also the Thanksgiving Day.
He wanted to thank Wang for his efforts
toward democracy and freedom in China.
By undertaking this, Hu Jia wished to spread the movement
of “captivity with Wang Bingzhang" to the whole country.
He hoped more people would stand out to voice
support for prisoners of conscience in China.
Wang was abducted in 2002 near the China-Vietnam
border, because of his pre-democracy activities in China.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment, on
charges of terrorism, and espionage for Taiwan.
“Self Defense": 500,000 Chinese Netizens React to Petitioner Killing Hired Abductor
The case of a Henan petitioner called Gong Jinjun, who
killed someone who was hired to stop him from petitioning,
has drawn public attention on the internet in China.
According to the website ’64tianwang.com’, about 500,000
netizens think Gong’s actions were clearly self-defense.
Early in the morning on November 14, Gong
and three other petitioners were moved
from a Beijing black jail called “Majialou".
They were forced into a van by a dozen “interceptors"
hired by their home provincial government in Henan.
While being transported, Gong was embroiled in a
conflict, and fatally stabbed one of the interceptors.
Gong surrendered himself to police after the incident.
The attorney Li Jinglin met with Gong Jinjun
on November 26, in a detention centre.
Gong told Li that, the police in the Criminal Police
Team of Raoyang County covered his head with
black bags and tortured him with electricity.
The police also poured cold water on his
body before giving electric shocks.
After being tortured like that for
forty or fifty times, he almost died.
A large number of netizens reacted to Gong』s situation.
The interceptors illegally kidnap civilians before the fatal
incident took place, so it should be a case of self-defense.
Some netizen said, “just imagine you were
suddenly kidnapped by anonymous people.
What if your organs were stolen by them?
If you don’t kill them, you will be the one that is killed!"
