In this letter published by the Epoch Times Newspaper over the weekend, a relative of a city-level Chinese official is writing on behalf of that official to beg for forgiveness. That official is from the 610 Office, which was set up in 1999 to oversee the suppression of the Falun Gong spiritual group.

The letter is addressed to two brothers. The letter says the brothers were tortured in labor camps for their beliefs. One was interrogated by dozens of agents and “deprived of sleep for 15 days and nights to the point of passing out five times.”

The brothers are sons of high-ranking communist officials. After their release, they began collecting evidence of corruption among those responsible for persecuting them. Now they’re demanding compensation for their abuse.

The official who apologized in the letter also urged other lower-level officials to expose the persecution, so they don’t become scapegoats for senior leaders behind the campaign.
