What’s Behind Gu’s Case?
The case of Gu Kailai having murdered Heywood played
a significant role in the changing the political situation,
and has been the focus of global media attention.
On August 16, Der Standard, an Austrian mainstream
newspaper, also reported the case.
The report quoted the American investigative reporter,
Ethan Gutmann, who said,
“The media are now all reporting Gu’s trial,
but this is not the real problem."
The report said that behind the scene of Gu’s case
is Gu’s husband, Bo Xilai,
who got involved in murdering Falun Gong practitioners
and illegal organ trading.
Der Standard reported, from 2001 to 2008, about 65,000
Falun Gong practitioners had become victims of illegal organ harvesting.
A major center of Organ trading is Liaoning.
The report said that Gutmann believes not only Bo Xilai,
who governed Liaoning Province from 2003 to 2007,
was involved in illegal organ trading, but also Zhou Yongkang,
public security chief, and the former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leader Jiang Zemin was also involved.
The report quoted Gutmann’s as saying, “China is a society
where surveillance (is everywhere).
If you say the CCP government was ignorant on organ trading,
that is very unlikely."
A well-known investigative reporter, Ethan Gutmann
had been investigating illegal organ trafficking,
and the systematic killing of Falun Gong practitioners.
He lived in China for years as a businessman.
HK Media: CCP Did Not Fight For Diaoyu Islands
Hong Kong people who protect Diaoyu Islands, successfully
landed to the Islands and proclaimed sovereignty over the Islands.
Diaoyu Islands sovereignty dispute sparked concerns again.
Hong Kong HKEJ published an editorial, saying the dispute
could trigger armed conflicts between China and Japan,
and become East Asia’s most dangerous military conflict.
Apple Daily commented that the CCP will never go to war
over the Diaoyu Islands.
Because to the CCP, the Diaoyu Islands and the history
of Japanese aggression against China are both props for the CCP to show its nationalist stance,
and the Japanese were forced to cooperate
with the CCP in the show.
The article suggests that the CCP may need external tensions,
even a small war to divert people’s attention.
However, the premise of the war must be to help the CCP
to consolidate its political power.
The article analyzed two reasons why the CCP cannot
be enemies with Japan or have a war.
Firstly, Sino-Japanese economic and trade relations are very
close, the losses caused by the war will be really too much.
Secondly, the CCP needs a war which it will absolute win.
Only winning the war, the CCP can divert
people’s attention and consolidate its regime.
Otherwise, it will only accelerate the collapse
of the CCP regime.
Chinese military corruption is very serious.
The combat effectiveness could be more than enough
to deal with its own people.
But it is doubtful in the expulsion of foreign aggression.
If the CCP had a war with Japan, there is not only no guarantee
to win, but also it is likely to be a repeat of the Sino-Japanese war in the past.
Harbin Centennial Bridge Collapsed
On August 24, Yangming Beach Bridge in Harbin broke after
less than a year of traffic. A 130-meter-long deck collapsed.
Four cars fell off the bridge, causing three deaths and six injuries.
The mainland media had touted it as Centennial Bridge.
It was also awarded the Construction Engineering Luban Award.
But it collapsed after just having been opened for a few months.
The event caused heated discussions online.
After the collapse occurred, the Harbin municipal government
held a press conference.
When explaining the cause, it was said the initial suspect
is “due to an overload of vehicles.”
Netizens said this statement is to shirk responsibility,
and sounds of mockery can be heard everywhere.
