Thoughts On Removing Mao’s Portrait
Anchor:
In China, Sun Yat-sen’s portrait is allowed to be displayed
but only on the major bank holidays.
Recently, increasingly more citizens hope to replace
Mao’s portrait with Sun Yat-sen’s portrait in Tiananmen Square.
Six citizens from Hubei Province plan to write a letter to Beijing,
or the Central government.
They believe that they are expressing the wishes all Chinese.
Reporter:
The six senior citizens haven’t made their plans public,
As they fear the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) revenge.
Tie Liu, a writer, received the letter and suggested that
the drafters of the letter solicit recommendations from the public.
The letter expressed that both Mao and Chiang Kai-shek were
students and successors of the “Failure Revolution” career,
which are admitted by both in their lifetime.
Peng Jiyun, a retired cadre, likes the idea to removing Mao’s
portrait and replacing it with Sun Yat-sen’s portrait in Tiananmen Square.
Sun has laid a foundation for China’s revolution, thus he has
been recognized around the world. However, Mao hasn’t.
Peng Jiyun: “Why have the generals who followed Mao’s
Wishes during the revolution, now become his enemies?
Peng Dehuai, was highly praised by Mao for risking his life
during the battle, however, was sent to a labor camp until his death.
Chairman Liu Shaoqi, who also persecuted to death.
If people have different opinions, they can share with each other.
How can you persecute people to death?”
Wang Liejiu, a former cadre, believes that removing Mao’s
Portrait from Tiananmen Square and replacing it with
Sun Yat-sen’s portrait, will cause people to want to send Mao’s
body to his hometown, and return Chiang Kai-shek’s body
to his respective hometown,
thus paving a way for China’s reunification.
Wang Ping, a retired cadre, who was persecuted for 21 years
during the Cultural Revolution, believes that Mao ordered
the persecution and death of many people,
breaking families apart, thus he doesn’t deserve to be on the Square.
Wang: “Mao didn’t do a single good thing
during his 40 years of power.
He started the class struggle movement.
He invented one persecution movement after another.
He classified people into two groups: the people and the enemy.
He persecuted 5 percent of the so-called ‘enemies’
in each political movement, killing over 80 million citizens, in total.
He is the worst tyrant in the history of mankind!”
Tie Liu, a scholar, believes that displaying Sun Yat-sen’s portrait
in Tiananmen Square is more appropriate as Sun led
the Xinhai Revolution, ending the emperor’s 2,000-year reign.
Sun was a co-founder of the Kuomintang (KMT) Nationalist Party
in China and if often referred to as “The Father of the KMT.”
The CCP calls him “The Nation’s Father,” so as the Chinese in the abroad.
Tie Liu: “The KMT and the CCP are two sons of Sun Yat-sen,
One is a communist bandit, the other is a warlord.
The bandit beat the warlord in the end.
Both sons respect Sun, which is good for both sides, thus it is better
to display Sun’s portrait.
Tie Liu said that a nation’s recovery,
depends on its spiritual philosophy, it doesn’t depend on
whether it has atomic bombs, aircrafts, or missiles.
Tie suggests that Sun Yat-sen’s Three People’s Principles
should be used to run the country.
Only by respecting Sun can the issue of the CCP’s legitimacy
be resolved.
Tie: “Displaying Sun Yat-sen’s portrait in Tiananmen Square
will put the country on the right track.
The CCP’s rule will then have legitimacy.
If Mao stays, the CCP will exist without legitimacy or legality.”
However, netizens questioned the idea of erecting a statue
of Sun in front of the Monument to the People’s Heroes,
which treats Mao as a god,
as Sun has nothing to do with the Monument.
Tie Liu: “Since the CCP came to power in China,
it has been telling countless lies.
Even now the CCP still promotes Mao as a wise leader.
The CCP also distorts history, daring not to face
its self-created political civil wars, such as Anti-rightists,
the Great Famine, the Great Leap Forward,
and the Great Cultural Revolution.”
Tie Liu points out that taking down Mao’s portrait is
following the will of God and the people’s will.
It will be good solution for civilian’s livelihood
and will reduce complaints.
He said that resolving Mao’s issue is the key point to
resolving the culture of fear in China, which will help resolve
the problems of China’s system and democracy.
