Largest Hacking Case Upgraded
World Internet safety experts recently revealed
the largest chain network hacking attacks in history.
The 72 networks targeted include the United Nations,
various countries』 governments, large corporations, etc.
They believe this is a “national operation”
and the attacks came from China.
Scholars think the regime』s frenzied network expansion has
started an Internet war, a bigger battle cannot be prevented.
McAfee, the Internet safety company that disclosed
the attacks, expressed that the attacks targeted countries
like the United States, Taiwan, India, South Korea, Vietnam
and Canada. It also targeted NGO』s
like the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN),
the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and UN offices.
As well as high technology companies and military suppliers.
49 of the targets are in the U.S, including government
agencies, military suppliers, research institutions and media.
The 14-page report McAfee released on August 3 shows,
this large scale attack operated intermittently for five years.
These attacks lasted between 1 and 28 months.
Political commentator Wu Fan believes this can be from
a country with a history of trying to gain from attacking others
or trying to damage opponents, which is most likely China.
Wu Fan: “First, it (Chinese regime) is after intelligence,
any information about software, hardware, finances, military.
Second, it wants to sabotage (opponents).
Third, it places Trojans for long-term attacks.
All this is to protect its regime, the CCP
(Chinese Communist Party), to protect and to expand.
Facing global financial and economic crises, CCP uses the
entire nation』s power to participate in this unrestricted warfare.”
All evidences point to China. Network expert Jim Lewis
from the Center for Strategic and International Studies
believes that China is behind this attack, because some
of the targets are places that Beijing has special interests in.
For example, the International Olympic Committee and their
websites were infiltrated prior to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Indian independent network expert Mushi pointed out that
China is currently placing all efforts in expanding its influence.
India and other Asian countries are likely to be attacked too.
Wu Fan said, the CCP has been tentatively attacking U.S,
networks for the past 10 years.
CCP hackers have infiltrated the U.S. State Department,
Department of Defense, Obama』s campaign office,
U.S Congressmen』s Offices, and
the company manufacturing the F-35 fighter jets.
This shows that CCP has taken the “Nazi” approach
on the Internet.
Fan Wu believes that the U.S., Britain, and other targeted
countries will eventually unite together and fight back.
Wu Fan, “The modern war is not fought with fire and
nuclear weapons, but it is an information war on the Internet.
One day there will be a big battle.”
The U.S. Department of Defense said in May that cyber
attacks from any country can be viewed as an act of war.
Last year, the U.S. anti-virus software company Symantec
wrote in a report on network spying,
that more than a quarter of the online information thefts
originated from China.
The German Constitutional Protection Agency found
in December 2010 that more than half of the attacks
on the German Government originated
from Chinese government agencies.
Many western intelligence personnel believe too, Chinese
hacking attacks are associated with CCP and the military.
This year China also admitted about the existence
of an elite network unit.
A former Chinese general said, this so called
“Network Blue Force” is selected from a large talent pool.
He said, “This is like Ping-Pong. We have a lot of
people that play it, so we are better at it.”
According to sources, this special unit
has officially existed for two years now.
