Son Tweets Mom for Dinner

Well-known human rights activist Wang Lihong has been
arrested for over 100 days. Her son, Qi Jianxiang writes daily
on his Twitter “Let my Mom come home for dinner."
Recently, netizens in China and abroad have supported him
by demanding the authorities to release Wang.
Her arrest is suspected to be the authorities’ retaliation
against human rights activists.

In the evening of March 21, Beijing activist Wang Lihong was
summoned to Public Security Bureau in Chaoyang, Beijing.
Wang was arrested by police, and
her laptop, desktop, CDs and books were confiscated.
One month after her arrest, her family still did not receive
any legal documents. Through investigation, they learned that
she was detained in the Chaoyang District Detention Center.

Wang has participated in the case of Deng Yujiao in Hubei
and “Three Fuzhou Netizens” trial.
She paid close attention to the suicide case of Li Chunxia,
to Zhao Lianhai, father of 『calculi babies’,
and to Tian Xi, an AIDS victim.
In Oct 2010, she was detained by police for 8 days,
and was put under house arrest for more than 3 months.

After her arrest, her son Qi Jianxiang writes daily on Twitter:
“Let my mother come home for dinner".

Qi told Deutsche Welle: “I went to visit her once,
but did not see her. I was told the computer system was down.
Chaoyang’s responsible procurator is Zhang Lan.
I have tried many times to contact Zhang, but failed.
I feel that they try to avoid me.”

Qi said the attorney of his mother revealed,
during her detention, she was mainly interrogated
on the case of the “Three Fujian Netizens”.

In 2009, three people, including You Jingyou, paid attention to
the rape-murder case of Yan Xiaoling from Fuzhou.
The three were charged with defamation.
During the trial, many petitioners and netizens supported them.
Qi and Wang were also present at the trial.

Qi thinks that authorities identified his mother as an organizer,
so they retaliated against her.

Han Yichun (Wang’s attorney) said:
“The nature of the case is clear.
It is not possible to rescue Wang by relying on the law.
The lawyer’s defense in the court is just a cry,
which can get out of the court and into the community.

In addition, Wang was asked to write a guarantee,
but she wrote that she would never write any guarantee.
She wrote, “I am a conscientious person,
I can not guarantee to remain silent when faced with suffering.
I can not guarantee to pretend to see nothing
when seeing the miserable cases of Qian Yunhui and others..”

Wang’s arrest drew attention from the international society.
Deutsche Welle reports on July 7, Amnesty International,
Irish Front, China Human Rights Lawyers Concern Group
are all doing subsequent follow-up work.

Chine, an Amnesty International spokesman in Hong Kong
told Deutsche Welle, “We acknowledge Wang as a female
human rights defender. Her issues go beyond politics,
and are about the livelihood and community-related issues.
Chinese authorities can silence and arrest rights activists,
charging them with “the disturbance of traffic order".
This violates international human rights standards
against arbitrary detention and torture.
