Beijing Goes Extreme for International Image in APEC
China hosts this year’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation
(APEC) summit, apart from tightening the security system,
many surprising measures and bans are introduced.
The US media ridicules that “even the dead will have to wait”
because of APEC.
French media quipped that Beijing seems trying
its best to protect foreign leaders’ lungs.
APEC meeting has been scheduled for Nov. 5 to 11
in Huairou, Beijing.
A 1,000 sets of HD face recognition security cameras
were installed in Huairou, a suburb of Beijing.
In addition to 342 original sets of cameras,
2,280 more were prepared and ready to use,
forming a huge monitoring network.
Meanwhile, 13 provinces and cities around Beijing
launched the prevention and control system.
60,000 policemen were put on 24 hour alert status.
Within a 200km radius of Beijing, helicopters
are on patrol twice a day.
During the meeting, only a limited number of motor-vehicles
are allowed to pass, logistics businesses are blocked,
private firms, schools, factories and underground system
are temporarily closed.
Heating supplies and milk deliveries are stopped.
Dissidents are arrested or under house arrest.
Beijing also cleans up the air pollution over a wide area:
a rare blue sky has appeared over Beijing in recent days.
Zhu Xinxin, former editor on Hebei People’s Radio says that
Shijiazhuang city where he lives is one of the major cities
to be cleared of pollution.
He observes that the series of activities that Beijing has launched
are to serve the image of the Chinese Communist Party and
of dictatorship.
Zhu Xinxin: “Any dictatorship such as the CCP,
doesn’t care about its people.
It only cares when its influence and image are threatened.
If it truly thinks about its people, the environment should be
kept as good it is now.”
Beijing’s extreme preparation for APEC, shocks the world,
it also aroused mockery by the Western media.
The Washington Post reported on Nov. 4 that with President
Obama and world leaders headed to Beijing for APEC meeting,
even couples seeking to marry or divorce will have to stem
their passions. Even the dead will have to wait.
On Nov. 5, the Liberation newspaper in France ridiculed
Beijing for trying its best to protect foreign leaders’ lungs.
It said that upon tens of foreign leaders arriving, the CCP
issued a ban on burning.
Even Babaoshan crematorium has issued the ban order:
“during foreign guests staying, clothes-burning is forbidden.
A notice on the entrance to the crematorium said:
“this measure is to protect foreign leaders’ lungs.”
Chen Minghui, current affairs commentator: “The CCP is for
maintaining a secure, perfect and smooth meeting,
it is to guarantee a political image.
It certainly will be a cost to human rights, civilian’s livelihood
and economic development.
Generally, it is a cost to civilians’ basic rights, to maintain
the CCP’s political image, and its political service.”
Li Shanjian, China affairs expert analyses that the reason
for the CCP to do so is for its international influence.
Using the enforcement measures to paint a bright surface.
It ‘s to win praise from the public, in order to continue its survival.
Li Shanjian: “The CCP achieves the purpose by damaging
its people’s interests.
Anyone who lives in a normal country will feel its logic is
ridiculous and stupid.
Using such a way to curry favour with foreigners,
I think it only can be laughed at by them.”
Chen Minghui says that the CCP itself is a traitorous regime,
which doesn’t have legitimacy and rationality.
If compared with the late Qing Dynasty’s blind faith in
foreign things,
the latter is far less shameful than the CCP.
Chen Minghui: “For example, the CCP says to fight
Western hostile forces.
But The Internationale that the CCP sings is from France,
the Communist Manifesto that the CCP reads is from Germany,
the system the CCP uses is from Russia.
The CCP officials have deposited their
huge amounts of money in Switzerland,
sent their wives and children to England, the US,
Australia and Canada,
then it says fight Western hostile forces.
It is utterly ridiculous and funny.”
Chen Minghui says that under CCP rule, many strange
things happen everyday.
Because the organizations that dominate the country’s
fate are abnormal.
So many strange and chaotic things occurred.
