Facebook

Armed Police Dispatched to Suppress Rammasun Victims' Protest

ANCHOR:

A week has passed since super typhoon Rammasun struck.

Victims of the hard-hit area, Weizhou Island of Guangxi,

have yet to receive relief supplies.

On July 26 morning, thousands of angry victims protested

to local government but found workers were watching online

pornography.

Hundreds of armed gunmen were mobilized to the island

to suppress the protests.

Please see the following report.

Text:

Since June, inclement weather has affected southern China.

The Yangtze River and Southwest area have suffered severe

floods.

July 19 morning, super typhoon Rammasun swept through

Beihai of Guangxi Province.

Many surrounding counties, including Weizhou Island,

were also hard hit.

Weizhou Island, located in the Gulf of Tonkin, is China’s

largest and youngest volcanic island.

It is a national scenic island with a population of 16,000.

Rammasun has caused tremendous damage to the island.

Buildings and boats were destroyed, banana trees

blown down to the ground,

water and power supplies paralyzed.

A resident of Weizhou Island,:

“The banana trees are all gone, slashed. It can only be

described as 'miserable.' Many sheds were blown down."

Chinese Jasmine Revolution website, molihua.org, reported:

7 days after the disaster, the island still lacks power and water.

Cell phone signals are on and off.

More than 8,000 houses were damaged.

Islanders only received a few bottles of water

per household from the Red Cross

Some local victims got a 100 tiles and a bag of cement.

No of other aid was available.

A farmer on Weizhou Island: “More than half

of the island has no water and power.

I suspect the entire island has no water and power,

even if there is some.

We bath in the pond and get water from the well."

While islanders are in urgent need of repair materials

for damaged buildings, the local official issued orders

prohibiting any cement, wood, tiles be shipped to the island

without application and permission.

To protest the poor relief by local government,

angry islanders smashed into the local management office.

An islander: “The entire protest was caused by the

management office not allowing any materials to get

to the island.

We can't fix the house without going through their layers

of approval."

Pictures posted on the molihua.org showed the management

building in chaos; offices and kitchen destroyed,

glass broken, and the management sign on the ground.

When the islanders rushed into the building, staff escaped and

left the computer on.

To the surprise of the islanders, they were watching

pornography in their work hours.

Angry islanders also turned to local museums and tourist

bureau to protest and overturned several vehicles.

Subsequently, at least 400 fully armed police were mobilized,

some armed with assault rifles.

The islanders suspect that some protestors might have been

arrested.

Following numerous natural disasters in China,

poor relief effort and corrupt deeds have been exposed.

July 21, state media, Xinhua News Agency, reported that

hundreds of thousands of people wait for relief in Hainan,

Guangdong, and Guangxi Provinces.

In the high heat, and lack of water and electricity, among the relief

aids from Red Cross, there were thousands of comforters

and jackets.

It is questioned about comforters for the south during the hot

summer time at over 30 degrees C.

In Wengtian Town of Wenchang City, Hainan Province,

also a typhoon stricken area,

local residents received heavily molded breads with

manufacturing date of July 1 and shelf-life of 6 months.

Whistleblower of the news, Gang Feng asked: A vacuum

packed bread with shelf-life of 6 months was already moldy

in 20 days. Who exactly is in charge of procurement?

According to latest news, after the protests, the local authority

of Weizhou Island was forced to withdraw its order to prohibit

shipping of building materials onto the island.
